Question

How does the power etc button work? I can't feel the difference in my 98 GS300. Is there a problem with my button? Should I be able to feel the difference? Please help!!

I believe it raises the rpms at which the tranny shift. The shift points appear to be a couple of hundred higher when on. You should notice the higher rpm's but there will not be a noticeable gain in performance imo.

The button will swith the gearbox from 4gear to 3gear. As hubbard316 has stated it helps to keep higher RPMs to get you to a certain speed faster. However you must switch to 4gear box if you are going about 120 mi/h because 3 gears are not enough for such speeds.

Is it true it will shift the gearbox from 4th to 3rd? Wouldn't you be able to feel this shift?

at 60 mi/h (or so) hit the button with 50% accelerator pedal down. You'll see the difference.

As far as "is it true" comment, its in your manual.

Default Hmmmmm

It's not that I am a Lexus pro or something (only have mine since 2 weeks ) but I think that the PWR ETC button does raise the shift points to higher rpms as mentioned by Sirsomo, but it sure will shift to 4th.
It's the OVERDRIVE switch that will only use the first 3 gears.
Or did I get something wrong?
