E-Shift
I see that the 2001 GS300 comes with the E-Shift mode on it. What is the difference that makes the 2001 GS300 able to have E-shift and not our 98s? Is it possible for us to convert our 98 GS3s to have E-shift?

When Lexus pulled the E-shift from the '01 GS430 to get the ULEV certification they reused the technology from the earlier GS400. Inexpensive midlife upgrade for the 300.
Probably not possible to convert the earlier 300s to E-shift due to lack of wiring in the steering column, etc.
Make sure you REALLY want E-shift for your driving style. If you want the ability to quickly change gears while involved in a lot of steering maneuvers, I doubt that E-shift is for you.
Reason: The shift buttons are all over the place; you'll spend time & eye movements searching for them. Works OK in race cars that have 1/2 turn lock-to-lock, but not so well on passenger cars.
