Question Eshift went away when ??

Within the next 6 months or so, I hope to be the new owner of a 1998-2001 GS400. After driving Mom's car (a '93 GS300, I have become spoiled). The Civic will go on sale once the motor is dropped in this month. However I notice that the newer GS's have no e-shift on the V8 models. What year did this change happen? Anybody know why?
-Ken-

Also if anyone has brochures from 1998, 99 or 2000 that they are wiliing to part with, please let me know.

The 2000 GS400 was the last year V8 with e-shift.

The 01+ 430's don't have it. All of the current 300's either have it standard or optional, of which I am unsure

Correct

98 - 00 GS400 has e-shift, 98 - 00 GS300 does not
reverse it for 01+
2001 + GS430 no e-shift
2001 + GS300 eshift

Scuttlebutt is that it was done so that the GS430 could meet ULEV emissions standards.

I think it was done to make room for steering wheel mounted radio controls

But the GS300 can get by ULEV even with it, but the GS430 can't?? Someone is not trying hard enough in the ECU department. The Honda S2000 has ULEV certification making over 100hp/ltr if I recall correctly. Oh well, I can't afford the later model year GS430's anyway, I'll have to stick with the 98-00's

Thanks for the info guys

I don't see how the eshift really has anything to do with emissions. If someone wants to choose their own shift points they still can manually. I read it's to make room for the radio/cd controls.
I have a 01GS43o & it would be nice to have both

Yeah, that's about where I'll be in a few months down the road. But that IS a GREAT deal w/ Nav. Hope I can find a CPO one that's around that price with the options I want. I really, really want to get the V8. The family has the 6 now in the '93, and it just feels like it never has enough power.
