I just bought 2 JL audio 12w3v2 subs for my car. I plan to upgrade my driver side and passenger side stock speakers. Later on down the line, I plan to add 2 alpine lcd monitors to the headrests as well.
What wattage for an amp do I need? Do I need a 4 channel or 5 channel amp?
I used to have those subs, I used a phoenix gold 800ti, which is 800 watt rms (400 per sub) @ 2 ohms. It sounded really loud! But you could get away w/ ~300 watts rms (JL's recommendation).
It's a little though finding a 5 ch. amp that has at least 600 watts for the sub channel, so maybe use a powerful 2 or 1 ch. amp for the subs. and latter on down the road you could add a 4 ch. amp when you decide to add new mids and highs.
EDIT: I forgot, check out Memphis amps, the Memphis Belle in particular, im not totally sure but it think its what may need (as far as power).
