Default GS400 DVD head unit install question (help!)

We installed a Jensen DVD player in my friends 1997 GS400. The unit was connected (power, ground, ignition and RCAs to the amps) with the exception of the wire labeled "park" which is the trigger wire that prevents the unit from being used while the car is moving, obviously we want to watch movies while the cars in drive so mounting it on the ebrake is not an option. I was of the school of thought that all it needed was current, sort of like a remote wire, so we used to a voltmeter to find an active wire in the wiring harness for the clock (which is right above the wiring harness for the H/U) and it still would not work, then our tap made metal-metal contact with a tubular support beam and we lost all power to the center of the dash (clocks, radio, A/C unit , and center dash lights). We checked all the fuses and none appear to be blown.

So, I guess my questions are as follows:

1. Why isnt the car providing power to this part of the dash and how do we fix it?

2. Where is a good location for mounting this "parking" wire?
