Default Grinding Antenna Mast

I know issues with the power antenna removal/replacement have been dealt with at length on this forum, but I could not find any dealing with this specific problem. My antenna wants to extend further than the mast will allow it to- so it grinds at the end of the extension. I pulled the nut off and fiddled with it, but no matter what I do, it wants to extend about 2-3 inches further than the lenght of the actual mast. Anyone dealt with this or have ideas as to how to solve it?

you probably need a new mast, buy a cheap one off of ebay and follow the easy directions:

I think it already has on of the aftermarket masts from e-bay. I wonder if it is too short, hence the grinding at the end of the "up" cycle, as the motor tries to extend it another 3 inches further than it will extend. Anyone ever heard of one of the aftermarket masts (the actual metal part, not the plastic cable) being too short? Anyone know how to adjust how far the motor tries to extend the antenna?
