Dennis,
I can't tell you for sure but I suspect that the coax cable you found in the trunk is the cable that goes to a rear window antenna or antenna connection. On my 00 LS, this coax cable is attached to a screw on the left side of the passenger side well in the trunk where the optional lexus phone unit would have been installed. On my 00 LS, a phone antenna is imprinted on the inside of the rear window along with the defroster and radio antenna wiring.
In my 00 LS, the coax antenna cable in the trunk that is connected to the coax antenna lead under the center console is attached to the bottom of the tool kit housing behind the inside trunk trim. Also attached to the bottom of the tool kit housing is the wiring harness that would plug into a Lexus phone transceiver. But I don't know how it is on your GS and if there is phone antenna imprinted on your rear window and, if it is, if it supports the band widths your phone uses. If an antenna is not imprinted on the window, look for a coax cable stuffed under the headliner at the top center of the rear window ---my 90 LS had a coax there for use with an external window antenna.
If a Lexus dealer can not tell you about the antenna, try e-mailing Lexus after registering on their website. They got back to me very quickly when I asked a question last year. Or you might be able to look up the specs for your car which might tell you.
On my LS, it is simple to activate the coax cable under the console by connecting the two coax cables in the trunk. Also, in my LS there is a six pin male connector (2 rows of 3 pins each) under the console on the drivers side that contains power and a radio mute pin. On my LS, the mute pin is the center front pin and I only had to jam the phone kits mute wire into the hole containing this pin and then secure it with a plastic cable tie. You can confirm this with a grounded test light when the radio is playing.
PM me if I can help. I might miss your reply.
