Default Does Kenwood make good products?

This is non Lexus related. But I want to install a new headunit into my Maxima cause the Bose system is overrated. I have been eyeing down some of the top of the line Kenwood products because it has 5.1 surround sound and also SRS sound. I have SRS sound on my Windows Media Player, and the sound and clarity of the music is so different. Almost sounds like 5.1 (would someone like to explain SRS a little bit more since I dont konw much about it except it sounds awsome on my computer) I just want to know if anyone has experience with Kenwood and if they are a good company for headunits. If not then what others do you recommend that also has some sort of 5.1 or SRS feature(or something similar). Thanks in advance.

no, worst head unit i ever bought was a kenwood excelon. terrible menu, i had to turn the head unit OFF to mess with the amp settings for the sub. their speakers are OK at most, i have not heard their subwoofers.

I suggest you get an alpine HU, you can never go wrong with alpine. I would say the best headunits are Alpine and Clarion. As for amps and speakers everyone has a different favorite, I personally stick with alpine v12 amps and Boston Acoustic speakers. Your going to have to go out and find out which one you like best, and yes bose blows

for the lower-end brands go with JVC or Pioneer. Otherwise Alpine or Clarion all the way.

Wow. I thought they made some good products. Was the quality of the headunit bad, or was its controls very confusing? Because the one that I am looking at seems like it has some really confusing controls.

Its a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X979

Yeah I was looking at Alpine. And I always liked there products, however I dont think any of them have a Surround Sound System built into the headunit. That right now is almost a must for me. Thanks for your help. Im probably gonna check out the Alpine headunits some more and make a decision. Or just wait a few months and let them release some new products.

Anyone else have any opinions??

why do you need 5.1? you wont notice anything while playing music. The SRS WOW is just a mode that makes the music sound better, it gives it a more full sound. Every company has a mode that does this, it just goes by a different name. Alpine has MX, and 3 different modes inside of that to enhance exactly what you want.

This alpine is alot better bang for the buck. and if you get confused with the time correction, the EQ, and crossover, alpine.com has a cool i-personalize feature that has a nice interface on how to use your head unit to its fullest.

Word, thats whats up. The reason why I would like 5.1 or better is because I watch TV, and listen to music on my computer in 5.1. So now all I need it is in my daily driver. Aiite cool, its good to know that there is a system like the SRS out there. I thought they were the only ones that made such a thing. I really like how its sounds on the Windows Media Player. Thanks a lot for your help. I will be taking a closer look at the Alpine unit.

For me I never like Kenwood products. Like sothernsc said Alpine and Clarion they are the best car stereo, but not for the speakers. I put Clarion DVD player h/u in my Lexus and Alpine CD player in my MR2. They both are great. Even I like Clarion more than Alpine because most of the Clarion products are still made in Japan.
