sorry to bring up an old thread, but I am having the exact same problem of not knowing where the speed sensor wire is. Can anyone let me know? Camren, where did your installer finally hook it up to?
One person told me that it's an 18 pin connector behind the instrument cluster, has a green wire, and connects to pin 6. Does this sound right? My installer says that he used that but I am still having the "Check Speed Sense" warning all the time. I need to make sure that that is what he actually tapped.
I need this tonight if possible as my car is going back to my installer tomorrow to try to get this fixed.
Hey guys, I just finished ordering my new Eclipse AVN 5495, whatever the brand new one is.
I'm going to be doing the install on my own as usual as I am good with electronics, and I need to know what wire you guys tapped for the speed pulse?
Also, did you guys wire it to a switch so you could turn off the signal and watch videos while you are moving?
Tonight I dropped off my car in to put in my replacement (hopefully no noise) AVN HU and one of the items I've asked the installer to do is pop open the console and let me know what wire worked so I can share with you guys.

OK... the tricky part about wiring the VSS up is that the wiring scheme on that clip has a 'top' and a 'bottom' , and both of them have EXACTLY the same color wires... so you don't know which side to attach to, even if you do get the right wire.
The VSS wire is on the 'top' row, that means with the clip side up as pictured. It's the 4th pin from the left when looking at the wires, the green wire.
Colors in order on the clip are black, orange, pink, green.
Hope that helps!
Ignore the tape on the other wires... as you recall, it took several trials and an half-day session on the phone with Eclipse to figure out the right one on mine.

amplex,
If you'll read the posts directly above you and look at the pictures, I think I did a pretty good job showing everyone where the speed sensor / VSS wire is. At least for a 98 GS, I suspect it is the same for yours but can't be certain.
I don't know about the reverse wire, someone else may be able to chip in.
