You can. You just need to get an inline preamp, I believe that's what it's called or maybe it was a preamp output. Ask you local car stereo installer, he will tell you what you need. YOu can get it for like $15.00. I did it with my GS 300 just a few months ago. Of course you have to run the 6 gauge wire from the amp to the battery with an inline fuse (50amp) and run the remote wire from the amp to the fuse box or splice it with another wire that comes on only when you start the car. First time ever installed my own amp and it was SIMPLE !!!
Is this the best way to do it in means of sound quality, use of battery power, etc.,etc.,?
I've had some friends with lexuses go to sound stores and they charged them over 150 for installing subs and an amp because they said it requires special wiring unlike other cars.
Sounds like BS to me. I didn't use any special wires. The only thing though, if you still have the stock head unit, you won't be able to control the bass. I have my bass turned all the way to -7 and the amp is on like 2 out of 10 and it's too much bass. One day when my funds are right, I will get a new head unit.
