Default New owner, new problems

Hello Everyone. I am John.
I am a new (to me) owner of a 2021 White convertible with the caramel interior. It has 13k miles on it.

I love this car, I do, but as a daily driver Its just a bit too many miles so Ive bought an old beater, Nissan one owner truck with 77k miles on it as my daily driver while this one will revert to a weekend warrior/date night car.

That being said, Already got some sad news:

1. Going on a short road trip I went through some intense road work going and coming. A rock hit my windshield coming home. 3 days later, it has cracked all the way from the top of the windshield to the passenger side, well over 10 inches!
Unfortunately, USAA will not cover the entire cost of a replacement. Im going to be out of pocket a few hundred bucks. Because of that, and its so new, I am opting for OEM glass to be installed. Its going to cost me $1100 out of pocket instead of $300ish but I don't feel there is any other choice to be made here.

2. Drivers seat leather wear. When I bought it. the leather on the bolster was very very worn. Lexus wouldnt cover it under warranty which surprised me. Ive never seen leather this new be this worn before. Because of that, I got a little discount on the car but I am going to opt to have the upper seat leather replaced with a new skin..> Talk about expensive!... around $2k for new leather and installation from the dealer.

Anyways, I am still happy I purchased the car and look forward to enjoy it for many many years.. but no more super long road trips for the time being. I cant afford another $1k windshield replacement. Im still shocked at how quickly a 3 day old rock crack spread on this car. Ive never seen anything like it. ZERO chance to stop this crack before it covered the entire passenger side of my windshield.

Hi John,

Sorry to hear about your problems.
you got pictures of that leather wear? im also very curious as the leather on the vert seems EXTREMELY SOFT and due to the aggressive bolstering of those sports seats, i dont think it'll wear all that well in the long run.

i expect you can get the leather replaced less expensively at somewhere other than the dealer, who most likely outsources it anyway.

a little harder to tell because the seat has now been dyed but you can see where it's very cracked and worn

^^^^Have you tried leather conditioner or saddle soap? I replaced the windshield on my coupe almost two years ago with OEM glass. Insurance covered it, but it was a reimbursement thing. Total cost was $1.7k. That included $375 bux for the front tint.

Yea this is a physical wearing down of the leather down past the top layer. Saddle Soap/conditioner might prevent it from getting any worse but this is a replacement fix not a restoration fix.

John if its dyed already, maybe just wear it down some more before replacing it. To my eyes, it doesnt look THAT bad.

If youre replacing it w/ factory leather, i got a feeling this will happen again shortly.

Why won't USAA replace your Windshield with OEM Lexus glass? Isn't that why you have insurance? My god this is a new car!
Same thing happened to me with GEICO and didn't have any problem getting them to pay 2K to replace OEM windshield on my LS because it was so new.
Don't settle for less. Argue your case. Because aftermarket and OEM are not the same.

Sorry to hear of your leather woes. This is a big issue for me and would have been a deal breaker because of my OCD. That area is bolstered and likely previous owner was heavy set and/or didn't care when they sat down and crushed the bolster. At least you won't see it most of the time unless you clean it or stand on the other side. You kinda accepted the leather "as is" when you took the discount. I think best is to accept. Minimize further wear and move on and enjoy the car.

also its a little known feature, but we have heated front windshield in our cars. I doubt non oem glass will have the heating elements built into the glass or will work with the car's heating function

https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/fo...ed-windscreen/

cant find a picture of it online, but its in the climate menu. Its the button that looks like a zigzg through the wind shield.

I posted this in another forum:

I had replaced the windshield on my ISF and have replaced it on my LC. See article below:

I would go to your city's best interior shop and have them look at it and give you a quote. They may just be able to either fix it or replace it much cheaper and possibly at higher quaity.

Get a windshield protector from 3M. It will cost you around $150 installed. Works exactly like a cellphone screen protector. You will need to change it every 9 months since it will have some streaks over time due to using the wipers. It saved my windshield from several rock hits.

in regards to the seat, check ebay, there are several LC seats for sale that are taken off totaled cars, will be way less expensive than $2K. Good luck
