Default No spare = nervous

So what do you guys keep in the trunk of your LCs in case you pop a hole in your tire and need a quick patch to get back on the road? AAA is convenient and I do have it but if a get a flat on a saturday after 5pm when all the tire shops have closed and I'm 75 miles from home....now what? Makes me a bit unnerved thinking about this scenario and how it can ruin an otherwise nice day. Any ideas? tips?

Run flats are only technically good for 50 -75 miles at a reduced speed but should be adequate for an emergency. I can't even remember when I last had a flat while driving.

BUT - to be absolutely prepared, Armand - Do as I Do - I used two 500 lb. capacity cargo ratchet straps and strapped a spare to the top of the roof. It doesn't interfere with interior or trunk space at all. I found black straps so they blend in fairly well with my carbon fiber roof. Only notice a bit of wind noise above 95mph. Of course, put a couple chamois between the roof and the wheel to avoid deep scratches, but I guess you already figured that out.

Drive it like you stole it.

Run flats should be just fine. If all else fails... drive on the rims if you have to.

I replaced my run flats with regular tires and it improved the ride substantially. I think in 48 years of driving I have experienced one flat in my life. And it was on a rental car.

I carry a cell phone with me. I’ll take the risk.

yeah....I do about 30,000 miles per year working in three states and I haven’t had a flat tire since 2001.

I might go with non-run flats on my LC once it needs tires.

Or you could bring some tire slime with you and an air pump. I know those things are nasty but it's a lot less hassle than maintaining/carrying a spare.

I picked up a small puncture repair kit with plugs
a 12v air compressor
psi gauge

oops think i forgot the tire slime, was researching the best one and got side tracked.

Plus i also have lexus roadside (like most of us still do).

Run flats have saved us about a gazillion times insofar as, if there is a nail or screw on a road within 100 miles of our house, my wife will find it. There is a significant chance that she is magnetized.

With construction going on in my neighborhood in the past, I got 5 run flat flats with my C5 and 6 Corvettes. No significant problems driving around town and getting them fixed. One time out of town I had a tire guy plug it so I could more safely get back home. IMO the LC ride is OK, and I won't be taking a chance on non-runflats.

I get it, and everybody is different. one size doesnt fit all !

if they'd make an all season in a runflat sign me up. i just cant run these summer tires 24/7.
I used to get tons of nails but now. almost never. I also ran non-runflats with my bmw for prob
15K miles. was lucky no problems. more problems with the runflats blowing bubbles
and im not talking about the clown.

I looked up a bunch of reviews and surprisingly the 12v compressor from harbor freight was very well reviewed. I bought one for like 50 bucks and a tire repair kit. There are a ton of 2-3 min youtube videos that show you how easy it is to use a tire repair kit (It's very easy). The tire goo slime stuff is convenient but I've seen nightmare stories of what that stuff does to the inside of your wheels. The LC wheels are pretty expensive to replace and basically that tire slime stuff sticks to the inside of it and is super hard to get off. Huge deal, no. But could possibly throw off the balance of the wheel.

I'm confused.

People who drive $100,000 vehicles shouldn't worry about these things.

Is there a reason you don't have AAA and/or towing on your insurance?

ANd what about Lexus's Road Side assistance?

If you have been there, you probably won't deny the convenience of run flats over these sorts of insurances.
