Modifications that void warranty (question)
It also made me think, if I put a wider wheel on my vehicle could that also void the warranty?
I asked the dealership, but I think they thought I was being a smart *** and they never responded, but if the first will, I should definitely be concerned about the 2nd. Anyone have any first hand knowledge?
My advice - Find a NEW dealer!
Welcome to the forum, Lot's of GREAT information here and GREAT folks to share it with
Lou
Technically speaking and if you dig in to the fine print, anything done to revise the vehicle from the factory build could void the warranty. It leaves a lot to the dealer's discretion though. If the dealer determines that the modification affected the issue being requested to be repaired under warranty, they can deny warranty coverage. At that time you can appeal directly to the manufacturer. Otherwise your final recourse is a lawsuit.
I would expect, say, if I installed a turbo or some such item to the car and I blew the engine, it's on me.That's logical and I should realize that when I undertake radical mods such as that. I would think though, in your case with a dealer installed torsen diff, they would have a separate warranty for the part installed and their installation. That should keep you covered.
Again, as Lou states, if your dealer is answering you in the way he did, run - don't walk, and find a new dealer.
My two centavos worth.
i can speak for myself... perhaps larger wheels, air intake, window tint...etc . the dealers have all been fine.
I know GM had fits with the chevy ss warranty and prob camaro and corvette regarding aftermarket parts.
I also know ford was lenient with the GT 5.0 mods... but GT350 they went over with a fine tooth comb.
bmw same thing especially with the TT6.
everybody is different, my take is pay to play. if you have the cash to up the boost 25% or whatever be a man and deal with it
but quite often the engine melts down and its $$,$$$ to repair...
its very rare i hear uh we've declined the repair because of a catback exhaust... GMAFB.
anyways thats my 2 cents.
