Default Flat Tire

I have a 2024 infrared coupe with only 2500 miles.I just got a flat on my rear passenger side. My guess is that it is from a nail as I have a slow leak. I haven’t yet taken the wheel off to find the hole.

Assuming it is a nail, would you use the goo that Lexus provides as a temporary fix?

I plan to attempt having the OE Dunlop patched if possible at my local shop. FYI—-I am not a big fan of driving on a patched tire (I could be convinced otherwise).

I am not a fan of the original equipment Dunlop SP Sport Maxx OE tires as they lack grip and are noisy.

Assuming the patch doesn’t work would you:
1. Replace the rear tire with an OE Dunlop;
2. Replace both rear tires with original equipment tires;
3. Replace the rear tires with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and leave the Dunlops up front;
4. Take the flat as a sign from God to replace all four tires with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S’s (Really just a dream).

Thanks in advance for your advice.

John

Please don’t use the goop pump provided by Lexus. That’s only meant for true emergency(like you’re on the road and can’t find help) to temporary seal and inflate the tire so you can get to somewhere with help. The goop will pretty much destroy the TPMS sensor and the valve. And you still have to replace the tire.
If the car is at home and drive-able, drive to your nearest local auto shop and ask them to check the tire to see if it’s patchable. If the car is undrive-able, then jack the car up and remove the tire and drive the tire to your local auto shop and ask the same question.
Anything that is not run flat and not puncture on the sidewall will have a high chance of it being patchable.
If I were to replace my tires, I would do all the same tire in 4 corners and not mix and match brand and models. In your case at 2500miles, I either do the OE Dunlop or all 4 Michellin.
My ‘24 coupe comes with Michellin PS5.

The dunlops a crap. Replace all 4. I am a big michelin fan, but for the money the Continental ECS02 is a great value and just as good if not better than the PS4S, especially in wet weather

PS FWIW, proper plug patches are perfectly fine and safe as long as the puncture is not near the sidewall

This post is timely for me I got a nail in my right rear PS4S tire last week. Since I bought my tires from Discount Tire, and they patch tires no charge, I returned there. They both plug and patch their repairs. It's now been eight days since the repair, and the tire is holding air and feels fine when driving. I know that a patched tire no longer has the same speed rating as an intact tire, but I'll wait and see how it goes. So Far So Good

I agree not to use the goop because, as stated, it will damage the tire and likely harm the TPMS sensor. I had a bad experience with a set of Continental tires on my ISF. Continental's customer service was nasty and rude, so I will never buy Continental again IMHO, the PS4S or PSS5 is the class of the field. If you do decide to go that route, make sure the Michelins you choose are rated XL (extra load) and not SL (standard load) they will handle better.

Have driven on tires I've plugged with cheap $5 plug kits, for decades with never a single problem. My Maserati's, Ferrari, Porsche, you name it. If it's in the tread I plug it!
It's your dime, though.... ✌🏾

I've always had my tires patched on every car and never had any issues. Take it to a tire shop (or Lexus dealer) and get the tire patched.
Your tire buying/replacing decision should be separate.

Patch or plug, either way. Replace with better tire when the time comes.

PLEASE - Don't plug as your repair❗️ Most secure fix is Patch and Plug. Some folks get away with a plug, some folks win the lottery

A more secure repair is a patch, it's more involved. Absolutely nothing wrong with plugging a tire either.
I've never won a dime in the lottery but I've probably patched 50 tires in my life...not a single issue.

Nothing beats a good tire plug, in your driveway. 😛
My sincere apologies to the professional tire patch, community.

Yeppers, it is. I've had a plug in that spot, on many occasions. A tad closer and I would have gone a different route. Should be fine for grocery runs. 😅
