I naturally assumed that a Lexus dealership would default to the Toyota brand oil as their choice. I suspect that some indeed do and others do not. I hope that any dealership would honor requests for the Toyota oil.

You would think that but its not the case.

My MB dealer also doesn't use MB oil, they use Liqui Moly...

For me, unless I am racing, or not changing my oil on time, Valvoline Full Synthetic Advance is more than sufficient.

Yes it seems that a reputable synthetic oil would be a good option.

I bring my Castrol synthetic and Wix filters to my mechanic and I stand under my LC while he changes it. Unless you change your own oil or watch it changed you never know what you get.
aye! and that's exactly why I do my own oil changes. After last time going to the dealer and finding they overfilled my LC by half a quart, I was livid. Not only did I pay 300 dollars Canadian for the oil change, but for them to do it wrong and then screw on the oil filter so damn tight that I need a breaker bar to release it afterwards, cemented my decision to do all my own oil changes.

The oil filter did go up in price recently. it used to be 13 dollars at my dealership, now its 18 bucks.

@Badhobz
I am curious, how did it come to your attention that the dealership overfilled your oil change by 1/2 quart? This is needlessly careless. Any problems disposing your old oil after a change?

i checked it myself. I did a check because I paid out of pocket for the break-in oil dump at 1000km. Lexus wouldn't cover it with their "free oil change" because its too low KM.

I took it back to the dealership, gave them massive **** and they sucked out the extra half qt. But they refused to refund me my cash saying that the work was still done.

That exactly my point. Lexus did it twice already with my LC. Too much oil about a half quarter more.

so I bought a low approach angle ramps and will do it myself next time.

@Badhobz why did you need a breaker bar to remove filter? There is no way to tight that filter too much. I mean if you did it yourself once you would notice that filter body will rotate freely till it reaches the engine then it stops rotating and there is no way to over-tight it except they use extra force.

Oil weirdness. Melbourne Fl Lexus.
One time they used whatever oil came from the hose and nozzle at the service bay.
The next time they opened actual bottles of oil. When I mentioned they charged me for the full last quart when they only used 1/10 of it they said. Yep, that's the way it works. 😒

I don't know, that's exactly why I was so mad. I don't know what the dealership used to install that oil filter but it was on so damn tight that I literally needed a breaker bar to free it. It comes out easily now, ever since I installed it myself (I've done 2 oil changes now on my own).

My dealer is the same. First oil change was charged for 10 quarts.
Level was above the full mark on dipstick.
On my second change I instructed them to only use 9 quarts, which they did.
The level was still high on the dipstick.

My guess is they work just like an express lube joint when it comes to oil changes. There is a separate bay for it and they drain and fill as fast as they can. No chance they are letting the oil drain fully. then they fill with the 9.1 qts resulting in overfill.

Mine was also overfilled on both my oil changes so far from my dealer, though I did see them using TGMO from bottles and not a huge drum.

Bad continue to do it yourself, no overfill no overtighten and you know its done right and ur saving a few bucks. The Magoo takes just under 9qts when all said n done and thats after the last drop is drained.
