Hi Schafari,
Appreciate your input. I wasn’t aware that metal fragments were such an issue in new engines I assume that this shearing of metal parts markedly diminishes over time.

Yes. Every engine breaks-in in the first few hundred miles with some very small, but visible to the eye, metal particles. Think, seeing "color" in a gold pan when you are panning for gold and you get the idea of the size. Things like piston rings forming to the walls of the cylinders, etc. After the first one at 1k or less, I have never seen anything in my oil in any of my vehicles. I have always done all my own oil changes, currently have five vehicles, and am just over a half century old, and ever since the first one I did on a new engine, I would always do it now. I will likely do the differential on the LC 500 within a few thousand miles for this reason as well. Plus, while "wrenching" on this car, I pretty much just can't help but smile the whole time. (Wife said she has even heard me giggle a few times, but I categorically deny that out of principle of course!)

Schafari,
Congratulations on your 2024 LC 500 convertible! I’m glad to know you derive pleasure working on it and certainly with driving it. YouTube channel “The car care nut” has done 3 separate in-depth videos dedicated exclusively to the LC 500. He lifts it on a hoist to marvel at and describe the under pinning parts and construction. He believes the LC 500 is one of the very best built Lexus models ever made. Over built is his opinion.

I use AMSOIL (oil change at 5000miles or 6 months regardless on any oil I use). I saw this YT below link, does this qualify as statistics / testing type?

Use Amsoil in all my cars and change at 5000 or less. It's amazing that the oil seems cleaner after 5k miles and the cars sound a bit quieter. I also change the oil in my new cars at the first 500-800 miles.

Hi asong1,
”Each,s own” okay understood.
Is your objective minimization of long term wear? I am genuinely curious. It seems that synthetic oils has proven their effectiveness over decades of use. Not sure what is gained with shorter change intervals with a synthetic.
Thanks

Hi asong1,
I appreciate your detailed feedback. You have certainly provided some food for thought. You raised some questions about proper engine break-in I hadn’t considered. No doubt that there are different perspectives regarding this.

At the end of the day if its a car you love and want to keep, who cares about overkill? An oil change is $180. Change it once a month for gods sake if you really want to.

The dealer does not use bottles of Toyota oil. They use 55 gallon drums of the cheapest oil that meets current specs. You can buy bottles of Toyota oil at the Lexus parts department , but I assure you that they don’t use Toyota bottled oil when they do your oil change.

I bring my Castrol synthetic and Wix filters to my mechanic and I stand under my LC while he changes it. Unless you change your own oil or watch it changed you never know what you get.

Some dealers do use the TGMO but most don’t unless you specify it.
