Default VSA Warranty Question?

Can I buy an extended warranty for my 22 LC500 from Lexus/Toyota if I bought the car used from a non Lexus Dealership? Also, I think I read somewhere that Florida is excluded from VSA but I'm not certain on that.

Don't believe all you read. The FL deal is Supposedly you cannot buy a VSA Out Of State. But, that isn't true either. I've gotten 2 warranties from Wolverine Toyota, the cheapest Toyota VSA in the country. One for a Camry one for my '18 LC. Below are the figures for my Lexus Platinum VSA for the LC from 2 years ago when I got mine. Obviously, I got the 10 yr/100k mike one. You can get a VSA as long as your basic 4 yr/50k Mike warranty is still in effect. Tell Jennifer I said Hi.

Agree with everything you said. Just as a heads up, Jennifer left Wolverine. She is now at Lexus of Ann Arbor. Her email is jennifer@lexusofannarbor.com Pricing appeared about the same. The new contact at Wolverine Toyota is Ian Rosentreter and his email is ian@gowolverinetoyota.com. I did a lot of shopping across the US and while the Wolverine price is great, I was actually quoted cheaper at Earnhardt Toyota through Evan Aldrich which is a finance manager. His email is evan.aldrich@earnhardt.com. Hope this helps.

So how does his work? Let's say I purchase a 10yr/100k extended warranty. Does that mean that the car warranty is simply extended to a "total" of 10/yrs/100k miles or does it mean that the 10yrs/100k is tacked onto the original warranty?

Also this is the basic warranty when you buy the car: Warranty: Four-year/50,000-mile basic; six-year/70,000-mile powertrain.
Does the 10yr/100k bump both of the above categories up? The 4 year and 6 year, so they would both now be 10/100k?

Yes. It’s a total of 10 year, 100,000 miles. It’s not added to the factory warranty. It covers about 95% of the items in the comprehensive and power train warranty but you should review the exclusions of the Extra Care Platinum warranty to get an idea. For example, one big exclusion is the infotainment system.

Jennifer emailed me and her prices have definitely gone up a lot compared to what Bruce posted. I'll try your other guy to see what he has to offer.

Bear in mind that Bruce posted 2022 prices. Prices of the plans have gone up since then.

It's great that a member has shared their experience and advice. Things can and do change since his experience. Suggest you contact that dealer and do a search for a few others. Pay close attention to excluded items which are typically wear items. This may include air shocks, timing chains and other items that may surprise you. Due diligence can only be done by you. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Possible major issue with the warranty on my car. The car was originally sold to someone brand new at Servco Lexus in Hawaii. The guy who bought it traded it into a Porsche dealership in Hawaii. That Porsche dealer eventually sold it to me in the states and I had it transported to me in Florida. While getting a quote for an extended warranty today from my local Lexus dealer, I was told that no information about the car was in their system. The original dealer, service history, nothing. After a ton of googling it turns out that Servco Hawaii gets their cars directly from Japan and therefore aren't in Lexus USA's computer systems. Now I'm concerned about whether or not Lexus will warranty my car at all if something were to go wrong. Does anybody know anything about this? I asked my local dealer and they're clueless. Not really sure who to call or speak to.

Wow that’s really concerning. I can’t really offer much besides telling you that the argument that you could use is that Hawaii is one of the states of the U.S. so the standard US warranty should apply. After all, US warranty also applies in Canada.

I had this happen to me with my HI purchased '06 IS350 back in '14. While in AZ, had recall work done on it but the AZ dealership ran into same issue; no record of vehicle. I cannot tell you what they did, only that they honored the recall work, and also let me know that I shouldn't have any recall/warranty issues going forward as they loaded necessary info into mainland system. For what its worth, one of the LCs i test drove was of CA origin, so confident Lexus will honor warranty. I should add that HI's allocations do come direct from Japan but only the allocations, as we do get mainland assembled models.

I would like to think that Lexus wouldn't screw me over if a warranty issue were to arise, but I have my doubts. Hopefully nothing goes wrong during the warranty period for this car. So far they seem to be fairly rock solid with the exception of the the occasional door handle issue.

it pays to be aware that an extended warranty is actually a service agreement between the purchaser and the coverage

He who laughs last...
Mention an LC Extended warranty and some will actually tell you that Lexus are so great it's Stupid to throw money away like that.

My 10 year 100k miles Platinum was about the same as both door handles replaced.
Doesn't sound so stupid to me.
