Yesterday was doing a U-Turn with traction control off to skid just a little and lost the power steering. Was at full lock to the left when I felt it go and the wheel got super stiff. I checked the 80A fuse in engine bay and battery and all is fine. I have no error codes in Techstream or lights on the dash. Anybody have any advice?
I know a few owners were complaining about theirs failing as well. One of the owners mentioned something about a connection that was weak in general and caused steering issues for him. Hopefully more owners that had this issue in the past can chime in on this. Most were early year owners like the 2008 and 2009.
So just in case anyone runs in to the same issues. Here’s how it was resolved. There was no power coming from the power steering ECU so I ended up replacing that and then found no change to steering feel. Ended up having to replace the steering rack as well. If you have Techstream you can recalibrate the ECU with the 0 steering angle with the car in the air and the battery hooked up on a charger. When front wheels were on the ground I couldn’t get Through all the steps without getting errors.
Hey I'm currently experiencing the same issue, was wondering if you ever got the issue resolved? Everything I read online says to replace ECU while my dealership is insisting I change out my power steering rack.
Start with the most cost effective items first before replacing the rack and/or ecu...
Have you done any electrical mods, maybe a short somewhere? Is your battery good still?
Also check the connections at the rack, another user here found that replacing the costly ecu/rack did not fix the problem and it was simply a loose wire at the connection, cant find the thread to be exact but a tech tested the connections at the pins and found a loose connection, user fixed the problem by zip tying the connection from the stock harness to rack.
Not saying this is the issue, but it sure can save a lot of unnecessary repairs if it turns out to be something simple.

D dealership told me the same thing, do the rack. I had it done (cost roughly 3gs) and now about a year later light comes back on about every other morning. Just crossed over the 100k mile mark.
