Direct from my guy over at Diode Dyanmics..

"It's possible he received one from our first production run, which we are still trying to replace for anyone who was affected.

Basically, our production team was using the wrong-spec capacitor, which would cause the module to fail under the load of incandescent bulbs. We've since corrected the issue and had no failures yet.

Direct him to us for a hassle-free replacement.

It's also important to add that these are manufactured in the USA, and our product has more functionality than the TapTurn, while being offered at a significantly lower price. It's also a complete replacement, digital flasher vs. a modified original CF18."

^^^ We did, but there were still some already in the hands of distributors, etc. We did our best to swap and pull initial once, but there was a few hundred already out on the market.

I'm sorry for the trouble. The issue in the first run of the modules specifically affects high-load situations. Since you have 6 bulbs total blinking, you're basically at the "max" load potential scenario. They are now completely tested and functioning with 6 total bulbs, no problem. You'll be up and running again in no time. I'm sorry for the trouble! Otherwise, looks great, thanks for posting the video!

Meraki Autoworks or JPxMODz, please reach out directly here or contact@diodedynamics.com if you need assistance with replacement - seems Meraki is already in touch, but just let me know if I can be of any help in getting a new unit to you. Thanks!

Give us a call and we will have a replacement sent out to you right away: (314) 205-3033

We contacted customers who received units from the first production run and have worked hard to make sure everyone receives replacements.

My apologies for the inconvenience, but we stand behind our products with a 3-year limited warranty and we will make sure you are taken care of.

Thank you,
Nick C.

Diode Dynamics is sending me a replacement unit. Whomever initiated the replacement for me didn't seem know of any bad batches of the SmartTap as mentioned in a earlier post. Hopefully I will have zero issues with the new one

I had the same problems as JPxMODz.
Our very own CL sponsor Nigel-JDMParts has this same relay for $39.99:

I have since emailed support at Diode Dynamics for a replacement. Hopefully the one I have was just a dud. I'll update the thread accordingly. On a side note, I have never seen a defective relay...

Just to clairfy, what relay did you have issues with, the Valenti or SmartTap? Also, possible solutions and outcome etc ?

Thanks

In for comfort blinker. I feel like a pleb every time I have to flip my turn signal stalk off after changing lanes on the freeway.

^^^Yeah that's what I thought. I'll stick with the SmartTap for the extra features. But if all you want is the tap feature, then this is a good option

Taken from Diode Dynamics product page...

The SmartTap™ is a replacement turn signal flasher module compatible with any vehicle using a CF18 (LM449) Flasher. Programming each mode is simple with the help of the included programming guide and the use of existing vehicle controls.

Tap-to-Signal: One-touch signaling is a convenient way to signal to other drivers when switching lanes. Simply tap the turn signal for a series of signal blinks.

Arrival and Departure Modes: When the lock or unlock button is pressed, the surrounding area will illuminate for better visibility when approaching or leaving the vehicle at night. The lighting time can be adjusted from 10-90 seconds for additional illumination, or disabled if desired.

Unique Hazard Functions: The SmartTap™ has built-in strobe, slo-mo and wig-wag hazard functions to help the vehicle stand out when the hazards are on. Apply these functions on their own, together or with the strobe setting for a total of EIGHT unique hazard functions!

We drive Toyotas. Don't need no fancy hazards. We don't break down
