Default Trunk will not open without keyfob.

Hello CL,

I purchased a 2011 ISF about 3 weeks back and coming from driving a is350 from 2005 until now, i noticed something off about the trunk.

The 2011 ISF, if the car is unlocked and I went to push the button on the actual trunk (not trunk release from driver seat or remote), it will not open (without having the key on me). I make sure all doors are unlocked but it still doesnt respond. However, when i have my key on me, the trunk opens fine when i try to open it. Not sure if this makes sense but i wanted to ask if this was intentional or something that i should get looked at. I also have a 2014 CT and that car doesnt have an issue with opening the trunk without having the key on you either. Both the CT and IS350 behaved the same way (trunk opens even when you dont have the keyfob on you, as long as all doors are unlocked).

Any input is much appreciated!

-Andy

Its a proximity sensor, you have to have the key on you to open the trunk using that button. Otherwise you can use the button inside the car to open the trunk.

^^ agreed. Supposedly it's to keep the valet boys from getting in? Assuming you lock your glove box.

Thank you for the feedback guys.

I would like to clarify a little.

My old cars would do this. I park in my garage and leave the car unlocked. I put my keyfob in the house and need to grab something from the trunk of my unlocked car. I would just go up to the trunk and press the button and it will open. This was the case with both my IS350 and CT200.

However, with the ISF, i will always need to have the keys on me to unlock the trunk via the button on the trunk. even if the car was originally unlocked. Do you guys get what im getting at?

So here is a question for you guys.

If you do not have your key on you but your car is completely unlocked, can you open your trunk from the button on the exterior on the trunk?

(I understand there is a proximity sensor, otherwise i would have the same problem with the driver DOOR....)

One thing to check for also . Make sure you have an ISF key fob met 2 owners that bought their F's and had an is250 or is350 key programmed to their F and they couldn't open put down their windows if they held open button . May seem dumb but check it out also.

Switch? Key fob?

No. The IS F does not do what you are asking. You must have a key on your person within 1m of the trunk to open it with the switch on the trunk deck. It will not open with the car unlocked without the key. The wife's Scion would do this. The IS F does not do this. The GS F does as well.

^^^ Thank you! This is exactly what i was looking for. Just affirmation that there is a difference among Toyota/Lexus vehicles since both my previous lexus' did this.

This saves me a trip to the dealer to inquire. Thanks again lobuxracer.
