Default Wrong size rear tires!.....Question.....

So I just realized 6 weeks later that I put the wrong size rear tires on my '12. For some reason I put 255 35 19 instead of the factory spec 265 35 19

The car drives just fine but I was wondering if I could have them put on the front instead of the 225 40 19 and then put 285 30 19 on the rear?

Would this mess with the handling too much? (I don't track the car)

Thanks in advance!

Yes, factory is 255/35/19 for the rear. However, I can see some reason for your confusion. Early on in the 2012 MY, the ISF specs did say the rear tire size was going up to 265/35/19 in the rear, but that was in error and never did happen. I think it probably had something to do with the wider MY 2012 wheels.

Is far as putting the 255/35/19 in front, they should fit just fine on your 8½" wheels. And of course the 285/30/19s will also work just fine on your rear 9½" Wheels. That combo should improve handling as well.

Thanks for the quick replies! I thought that the rears were 255 but I found the VIN Decoder on here tonight and when I looked through the info it said that the rear size was 265

Thanks for clarifying! I originally went with 255s to keep them factory spec but after seeing other members with larger tires it made me regret my decision.

The fronts are still Bridgestone but I switched to the Continental DWS 06 on the rear. I noticed the inner fronts are wearing so I think I'm going to swap the rears to the front and get 285s on the rear!

Sorry for rambling and thanks again for the replies!!

You may want to search more. I don't think the 255 will fit without rubbing. I could be wrong. Most people do 245 in front

^^^^Yes, most folks who upsize go with 245/35 up front - but that's because they are on stock MY '08 thru MY '11 8" wheels. The OP is on MY '12 8½" wheels and a 255/35 will fit on the wider wheel. I'm on 9" RCF wheels in front and have 255/35 Bridgestone S-04 in front.

And to the OP - My experience with the Continental DW was not a good one. Search for my thread. And my advice is to use the same make and model tire front and rear.

Thanks Lou, I read through your thread a while back. Sorry you had problems and appreciate all your advice on the fitment etc.

I was running on the DWS on my 350 for a little over 3 years with no issues hence switching from the Bridgestones. The new rears I have now are the updated DWS 06 and are running like a champ! I only have 1000 miles on them so I guess time will tell with these larger specs.
