The E63 twin turbo
Power and comfort wise, I am with you, this car is a monster.
As for purchasing any 2-3 year old AMG or M car, warranty and extended warranty is a must if keeping it past warranty period. But if modding, doesn't really matter as long as your budget allows for "possible" maintenance and repairs. But yes, it is the best of both worlds if you're looking for bonkers power and luxury. Track...not so much..
I'm feeling the itch to move on from the F...
Merc reliability/quality is not something i would count on.

Now MB, BMW and others certainly make some fantastic performance machines, and the E63 is one of them for sure. It's a beast. I personally would not want to roll the dice with getting a used one though. I agree, this is a car that I'd lease only, and when you lease, you can't really mod, so I'd stay away.
For you guys not in need of four doors with an itch to upgrade, I don't know how Porsche isn't at the top of the list, with the GTR on there if you're looking for pure performance.

If we get to the power, newer higher end sedans really are crushing the F. Audi, MB and BMW are all in turbo V8 that have tuning ability.... New M5 is struggling but regardless. If I didnt care about the back seats which I do. I would be in a 997.1 turbo already. But now that GTR's value is dropping so fast and you can pick up a 13-14 for 70ish grand that is more appealing that buying a 7-8 year old porsche..... I'm in the air about that topic.

I don't think there's ANY question that the Germans (and Americans) are stomping Lexus with performance. Yes, the newer luxury sedans are really just better performance cars when compared to the F. Part of that is because they are newer, and the ISF is a 7-8 year old design. But even when you look at the RCF, the competitors are simply faster. That's why I was saying that most of us that own ISFs are here for a reason, and one of those reasons has to be reliability. You can't tune this car, you can barely mod it, and the competitors are faster. I doubt many of us are really worried about gas mileage in this segment (though the ISF does that best too)... so reliability has to be a large part of it. So if you're looking at the E63 like Tom is, you should consider what you might be losing on one hand to gain power on the other.
I'm a car guy though, and I appreciate all types of cars. The GTR is one of those cars that I can't help but be impressed with. For the money, I don't know if I'd want one, but it is quite impressive. For MY coin, I'd be looking at a used 911 4S in that $70-$75K bracket over a GTR. Obviously the GTR is way faster... but I like everything else about the Porsche.
