To tip or not to tip
I had the 30k mile service done on my car yesterday at the dealer and when you pull the car in there are handful of young guys waiting to open your door and escort you into the office area. They also pick up the car and drive it over to the service area when its done. Do you guys ever tip these guys? I never have but it almost feels like a valet situation and I was curious as to what everyone thought. On a side note its hilarious how they almost fight over which one gets to drive the car over lol

I'm pretty sure the exorbitant dealer labor rate accounts for the service payoff's..... of all staff and fixed daily operational budgets (like the coffee barista, newspapers, and lounging areas).
I agree with vbb....it's a little much.... but if your a regular face and the staff recognize you I suppose it can't hurt.

I usually take it on a case-by-case basis (other than obvious scenarios that command a tip: waiter, bartender, valet, call-girl) and will throw a few bucks at someone who either goes above and beyond typical service or if I sense I can make somebody's day

When I was in the US a year back, I just found the concept of tipping everywhere a bit annoying. One restaurant had already added 15% tip into the bill which I was not very happy about. Also the very first meal I had in the US, the waitress had the nerve to ask me if I wanted change back.
In Australia I only tip if I am paying cash for a meal.

I would never tip anyone at a dealership, it's their job to do that.

The very first time I took my F in for the 5000 mile checkup, there were a few service members waiting to take the car. When I was about to hand one a tip, he declined. I bought him lunch on his break, and he's been there by my side helping me out with any and everything F-related since. To think, a declined tip turned into a friendship and a dependable contact at a Lexus dealer.
