Default Strange PPE, Borla problem

Hey Guys,

Just had PPE headers and Borla cat back installed and the car has a weird metal hitting metal noise on ONLY left turns. It happens at any speed above even 5 mph. We had it running on the rack in gear, turning wheels back and forth and can't duplicate the noise. All the visual inspections don't show any scratching around the headers and there is decent clearance of the headers above the driver side engine mount. Can anyone think of what components around the headers settle lower when car is on the ground? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You may have the header on the passenger touching something. I think the Sikky headers had this issue. I would try adjusting the heat shields.

There is a hanging piece of metal off frame of the car that the undertray bolts on to that the section of the borla hits. It's past the junction of header and exhaust by about a foot. Look for it. I had to trim that little portion of the metal.

^ Like others suggested, it more than likely is a heat shield issue. You could either cut or get away with bending it. GL with your find and post some vids of your new setup.

Thanks all for the suggestions; forgot to mention that all the heat shields were paid attention to and made sure that we had good clearance. Right after install, the heat shields that were still touching made more of a rattle-metal noise, and were fixed. This remaining noise is more of a solid metal to metal contact and noise.

ToothDoc,

I will have them check that area of the Borla you mentioned.

Thanks.

There is a bolt on the passenger that is touching the body frame. Have your mechanic file it down or if possible replaced. FYI, I have Sikky headers and PPE might not have it.

I'm having the same issue with my F. Please post some pics of the bolt that is touching the frame.

It's a metal frame that holds the center flat panel in place. Not the heat shield. I had it and took me forever to figure it out. Mine was actually touching all the time and on bumps or certain turns, it wouldn't touch causing the solid noise. Just grinding a little bit of the metal solved the problem. You need to get it on a lift and remove the center plastic shield in order to see it. It's not a bolt.

Solved!!

Everyone thanks for the tips. The problem with mine was that the header was still hitting the driver side engine mount on left turns; so they trimmed more metal off that mount to provide enough clearance. There must be slight differences in each batch of headers to be just too close to that mount.

The motor breathes really well with this header/exhaust combo!
