Hey guys.I want to ask you if you noticed a metal sound after installing PPE headers when you pass 3000 RPMs.I m curious to see if the horrible metal sound I heard after I deleted my primary cats from the OEM headers is the same with the sound of PPE headers.I m on stock exchast after headers and with no cats at all.
I want to understand if the sound is from the metal pipe inside the OEM headers or it s from the VVTI.
Thank you
I have catless PPE headers and I don't have any sort of metallic metal-to-metal sound/noise coming from my exhaust. Do you have any heat shields under the car that might be loose? I know there are heat shields near the headers on the firewall/trans tunnel that could become loose and vibrate.
I've put headers on many engines and its certainly not a metal on metal sound but more that you can hear a "tink tink tink" from the exhaust gases passing inside the tubes. Put a long screw driver on the tube and the other end to your ear and listen.
Near impossible to explain here honestly. Then again on thicker wall headers like these, you hardly hear that sound at all. Not that I have headers.... yet!
Thank you guys. Its odd because Mr Paul from PPE (who was very very helpful)told me that the VVTI is making a metal sound like the one I was hearing when I deleted my primary cats from the OEM headers. He told me that in order to reduce this noise it's better to install metal cats in the mid pipe.I m confused now because I thought that the metal sound I was hearing was from the metal pipe inside the OEM header that was loose.I don't know if I should try them again if I stick it or I will waste my time and money ofcourse.
I'm not sure what your car sounded like but I experienced worsened sound quality when doing headers and being fully catless. I figured it was just because it's a v6 and they usually sound like crap catless. I currently have a pair of cats added right after the headers and it cleaned up the sound. I think a good pair of resonators would do the same.
Thank you buddy.Actually this is what MrPaul from PPE advised me to do also.I just dont know if i should go with OEM catless headers or go for PPE.I m a litle sort right now.
We will see.
And did you notice any power gains with this set up?
Well, I never did dyno before any power-adders; so I have no real data. But judging from other members' dyno #s, yes, I've had power gains. Along with the PPE header install, I did four new O2s sensors AND new Accel coil packs (claims a 15% increase in spark energy over OE).
Τhank you for the reply.I m just not sure if it s worth spending so much money on headers and a full exchast. It will be more than i spend on the 3GR!I m just afraid of the engine and this is the only reason i m thinking it over and over
Does anyone know how many inches is the inlet diameter of the IS250 ,350 tubes?
Which dimensions do you need? Primary diameter on OEM manifolds is ~1.4", the exit is just shy of 2". I believe the OEM exhaust rounds to about 2.25" OD, not sure what the internal diameter is. PPE headers for the is350 have an OD of 1.75, ID of 1.625 and the same outlet of ~2". I noticed no difference in peak airflow measured at the maf at the time that I installed my headers. It might be the case that at this point I would notice a loss if I swapped back to the oem manifolds.
Mathew from OV who is tuning my car and a Greek tuner from the Dyno I went advised me to buy headers in order to reduce the extra temperature from the exhaust now that I m supercharged. There are different opinions about that because my car is defenatelly not lean after the tune and many exhaust shops believe that if the car is not lean there s no way the engine could be damaged from the exhaust.Unfortunatelly there are others who believe that it can so I want to I prevent it.
I m pretty sure though that I will not notice any power gains after headers and exhaust.I hope I m wrong
