Default Pay now or Pay later?

Probably not what you think...

Seeing as how we drive a pretty fast car, I think for most of us, it's probably just a matter of time before we have at least an encounter with The Man.

Pay to play, right? So today, I took a preemptive measure and picked me up a Passport Escort 9500ix after reading tons of reviews. Hopefully it will prove to be a wise investment...

Who else has a functional windshield ornament??

I highly suggest the blend mount and hardwire kit. I have a valentine one and will never speed with out the protection of a quality radar detector. Congrats a&m the new Passport I do like the GPS feature but love the arrows of the V1.

May also want to use the app "Waze" to help fight the man. I find it more accurate and useful than any radar detector and it's free .

You have to be crazy to drive an IS-F without a cop detector. I would probably not have a license if it weren't for mine.
Even on the day of the big Dover IS-F rally, I was lasered going over 120, yet I was able to hit the brakes before the cop got a confirmed speed. That alone would have spoiled my fun for a long time. You don't need to spend a fortune, even a bargain Whistler or Cobra will do the job.

I would recommend against a radar detector. They are not as accurate as common sense and general knowledge. I never had one in my F and have never got a moving violation in it.

Do any of you know whether speed monitoring by aircraft is based purely on in-air distance measuring or if they also use some sort of radar/laser? If the planes are tagging my car with some kind of beam, then i might have a chance to detect them. If it's purely a distance over time calculation, then no detector can guard against that.

The 15 corridor to and from Vegas is a giant speed trap and I see cops camped out all the time. I feel better about mitigating the surface to surface threat, but air to surface might still very much be an issue. #airsuperiority

Ah yes, the ever reliable Valentine 1. I remember reading PopSci back when it first came out and wanting one. I've had luck with the Passport brand and also since I don't know of a brick and mortar store that carries the V1, I went with the 9500.

They pretty much use the distance and timing with the aircraft, the system is commonly known as VASCAR. Maryland uses VASCAR as well, ask me how I know!

The V-spec speed timing device is big in PA. The uses the old formula D=RT.

They can determine the time it takes you to traverse a distance, and they can reasonably calculate your speed.

It will not hold up well in court unless your are driving the F like a rocket. It is good enough to land you a municipality contribution of a buck and a half.

You're a better man than me, my friend! A true fit for the Lexus ISF - smooth around town, but a beast on the track. I can't seem to compartmentalize as cleanly, there's just something about that annoying driver going 5 under in the left lane that rubs me the wrong way. I'd hate to get tagged for "temporarily occupying the right lane, but retaking the left lane at a later time, incidentally overtaking said slowpoke" - not to be confused with passing on the right - thus my recent purchase of the Passport unit.

I live in Alberta with a Valentine 1 and blendmount. Prior to the radar detector I had ~5-6 photo radars which amounted to $6-700. Regretted not getting this thing earlier as I haven't had a single one since my purchase. Best investment ever

I have a V1 and it was one of the best purchases I have bought. To this day I have atleast 15-17 saves! Just make sure you understand exactly how radar and lidar works before you speed! You can easily outsmart 95% of all cops.
