Default Is-F trouble

Ok, so two weeks ago some jackass wasn't paying attention, ran a red light and smashed my front end. Well it's been at the body shop being repaired. They did a pretty good job, however when they went to do the alignment, the found out the engine cradle was twisted. So they told me they need to replace it. My question is, will there be any problems replacing the cradle?

Thanks for any help

I was hoping the insurance company would just total the car, but when they saw the check they would have to cut me...they just had it fixed. So far they have about $14,897 in repair costs.

WoW! Good luck with the repairs. I hope you get it back on the road soon. Ill also give you a pointer. You can ask the insurance for an additional amount of cash to cover the devaluation of the car due to the accident. You can easily get from 2-8k depending on your mileage and year. Its your right to ask for this, so take advantage of it.

If everything else is within spec the only thing to pay attention to is sub frame alignment. It will effect steering, creating a pull if not set correctly. There are plenty of threads about it if you want to know more.
Sorry to see your car like that. Hopefully it fixed correctly and quickly.

My 3 was hit by a woman on her way to a wedding. My car was sitting at a red light--$20,000 in damage. The car was better than new when I got it back.

Just be certain that they check the sub-frame and adjust it if necessary.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

They said the sub frame looks OK. When I get the car back I will have it rechecked. I was mostly just worried about the new Cradle, wanted to make sure all would be OK with replacing it.

Good luck with that, most insurance companies and adjustors will not pay out in de-valued amounts for your vehicle. The insurance company is only responsible to put your car back in the condition prior to the accident. Therefore they can just easily decline to offer any amount for the devalued amount of your vehicle. They are only responsible to repair your vehicle or total it if it is within 70-85% of the value of your vehicle in damages. You might get some money,if the adjustor is a actual human being with emotions, but I can guarantee you will not see anywhere near $8k. You will be lucky if you get $2K max.

I don't know anything about how it works in insurance and especially in US but I would be surprised if someone crashing in to you that is their fault and their insurance is covering can leave you financially worse off (with a car that because of the accident will be worth less come selling). If that was the case wouldn't everyone there just sue the other parties for the extra loss?

I had the exact accident in Jan 2011 when a car hit me on the front axle area. The Subaru had 21k worth damages and after haggeling with the ins they totaled the car. The adjuster also mentioned that if this was a Merc or an expensive car they will fix it. They don't care of the resale value as it is not their problem.

We have done it on 2 occasions. One with a brand new 350z that was hit in a parking lot, and once in a Mazdaspeed Protege that was hit when a driver ate the stop sign. Both instances we told them that we were going to pursue legal help because these were newer vehicles, and we could not resell due to the accident that would be on file. Both times we were compensated.
