Keeping an eye on that tire is BS. This is your life we're talking about here. Replace the two tires on that axle post haste.

Is it OK if I replace the front 2 tires with a different brand? I currently have Bridgestone Potenzas all around.

Also, do you guys typically get the tires replaced at the dealer, or Mavis, for example? Mavis Tire has some really good deals.

Yes you can run two different brand of tires. You can get tires from anywhere.

You can run different brands (the same size, brand, and tire model on the same axle), but, not all performance tires have the same handling characteristics. It may work out or you may feel less handling prowess than you felt with the same brand and model of tires front and rear. With performance tires it's a crapshoot. Rubber compound, tread design, and tire construction all play into this equation. With non performance tires, the decision is much easier.

With that being said, try it, if it doesn't work, you can always replace the rears and try to sell your old tires.

The dealer is not the place to replace tires. Make friends with a good tire reseller in your area. One who knows what he is doing and can make decent recommendations. I personally like Discount Tire. I have had a relationship with a Store Manager for over ten years now and I've followed him from store to store (it's been four stores now).

Do you have a road hazard guarantee? Sometimes, even if you don't, if you call the tire manufacturer and tell them there's a crack in the sidewall, they'll offer you goodwill towards new tire replacement. It doesn't always work, and requires an inspection at a participating tire dealer, but they could prorate a replacement based on the mileage versus tread life guarantee. This happened on my Audi and I was able to have four new tires prorated for a single flaw in one. Those were PS2s/Michelin; I'm not sure what Bridgestone/Firestone's policy is, but it can't hurt to check it out.
