Default Crank shaft positioning sensor?

Got a check vsc and check engine light 2 hours after I put my exhaust on checked the codes and it was the crank positioning sensor? Would the exhaust cause this sensor to go out? What makes the sensor go bad? Thanks for any help guys.

exhaust was the iss forged system.

I would put the stock exhaust back on and see if the code pops up again.

That happened to me after I put my JoeZ exhaust on, check VSC and Check engine lights, locked outta first gear in manual. Went to the dealership who said it was a bad O2 sensor and replaced it under warranty. Surprised they warrantied with the aftermarket exhaust on, but I did hear them revving to hear the exhaust when I was in their waiting area (prolly just got a cool tech)

That’s exactly what it is doing! How did you know that? it wont let me grab first gear in manual mode! I was going to take it in to the dealer but im scared they will say something about my exhaust?

Will the exhaust void my warranty? i was going to put the stock system back on so they wont say anything but if they don’t care than I will take it in as is. Thanks for your help

Your exhaust shouldnt void the warranty. I knew because ive been through a similar problem and found out that its actually the O2 sensors going/gone bad. Mine are finally going now so I ordered a pair a few days ago. The thing that i dont get is why the code isnt for emissions.

^^ Most dealerships will see "an aftermarket exhaust" and deny any warranty claims for anything related to the exhaust/emissions systems..
For example: Any of the 4 - O2 sensors.

The O2 sensors are extremely sensitive.. They do not like to be touched, heavily wrenched or hammered on.

I have never had one go bad after an install.

It also depends how good of a relationship you have with your service writer and/or tech.

It would be best to try and pin point which one went bad, so that you are not replacing any un-necessary parts..

Good Luck

so this problem happened to you and it was the o2 sims and not the crank sensor? thats so weird? the first thing that i thought was the 02 sims b/c thats the only thing that i touched on the car, than got the codes and it was for the crank sensor? so what everyone is saying is that it is the 02sims? thanks for all the replys guys i would be lost without this forum! lol

On Board Diagnostics are just a tool. They very often do not find root causes, they just indicate something is wrong with some part of the system, but it could be something completely different than what the code indicates. For example, the wife's Camry from years ago showed a code for EGR valve failure. I went to Toyota thinking I needed an EGR valve, but that wasn't the problem. The VSV controlling the EGR valve was bad. Interestingly enough the VSV was a part in stock and the valve would have to be ordered...usually the part on the shelf is the one that breaks and the one you need to order is wasted time and money.

If you really had a crank position sensor problem, the engine would not run at all. It is the master input for everything the ECM does. If it doesn't work, the engine does not run.

In my case where the dealer warrantied the O2 sensor even with the aftermarket exhaust may be a solitary case, I dont think this could apply to all dealerships. But I didnt have any sorta relationship with this dealership, purchased the car from another lexus dealer in the area. Only thing I ever did with this dealership was an oil change. I think I just got lucky to be honest... but they won me over.. i'll be back there for future work
