after sixth gear (1:1 ratio), it begins to taper off just a bit IMO. when i was able to track it, gettin to about 110 was a piece of cake.....getting to 130 and above took some time and shifting at just the right mark. it makes for some fun to mess with, but definitely not something you wanna try to do often cuz it will ruin the tranny in a faster period of time. top end it shouldnt have a problem, but it is getting that same amount of power past about 110 MPH that makes it challenging but also very fun

Besides the aerodynamic drag which is significantly greater, there is also kinetic energy. 0-100 mph takes X energy. The next 40 mph takes MORE time simply due to kinetic energy - not including aerodynamic drag. IMO, the F with a somewhat closely spaced gear ratios and quick shifting does a GREAT job of maximizing the engine's potential given the weight of the vehicle. Perhaps it's the powerband of the vette and their gearing that gives it the feeling that it really starts to kick in after 100 mph, but afaik, almost ALL vehicles exhibit a curve that tapers except for drag cars and some serious race cars that can accelerate harder due to more downforce - they actually ramp up and then taper off.

Top end on these cars are great. The feeling of acceleration is not going to be the same as in a vette or supra for sure. That does not mean your not moving out just as well. I have raced a couple C5Z06's (380whp range). If I race them from a 40mph roll they come out on me a good car. If I race them from a 60mph it is reduced down to a half car. If I race them from 75mph they can not pass me. A little of this is the diffence in gearing, but if their top end pull was that strong they should be able to over take me before 150mph, but they can't. They now only race me from a 40mph or their best roll out speed of 35mph...

Maybe the two vettes I've raced have had mods I don't know didn't sound like it but then again I had my windows up. I know the car still pulls and pulls well I just expected a little more. Good debate.

At what rpm were you shifting? I feel I had the same troubles.

Both vettes I raced were modified. Both are friends of mine and I race them quite often. Just remember don't always race them at their sweet spot. 35mph rolls for them are golden and crappy on the F. Try running one at 70plus and see what happens. If they are over 400whp give up...lol

C5Z06 2002 Headers, Intake, Exhaust, Tune put down 385whp
C5Z06 2002 Throttle body, Intake, Tune put down 370whp

Shoot me a pm if you would like to view the videos. The IS-F did well against both of these cars. I would be able to pull on a stock C5Z06. That is not bad considering they weigh quite a bit less and are a purpose built car.

Will people ever stop comparing the F to the Corvette? You're comparing a high performance saloon with a mid-age crisis performance coupe/grand tourer. Apples and oranges.

The title of this thread references "Top End". How many people here have actually taken their F's to the top?

172 mph is crazy fast, and while I haven't topped it out....I did take her to 165 and thought that if felt like she pulled continually and that there was plenty more to go...but that's just me.

It's really wonderful how planted and confident the car is even at high speeds.

I've been crusing at 150MPH without noticing it, and at 160MPH the car feels like it wants to go faster. As said before, wrong comparison, get another sedan next to the F and see how it goes. Not many options out there except the M5, AMGs, CTS-V...
