Default The Super Saloons!

Make....Model....MSRP....Weight....HP....TRQ....0-60
Lexus....ISF:....$57,435....3,527....416....371....4.6s
Benz....C63:....$57,175....3,649....451....443....4.3s
BMW....M3:....$58,675....3,726....414....295....4.7s
Audi....S5:....$52,225....4,067....354....325....4.9s

^So, just by the looks of this. Is the C63 the best Super Saloon out there? I mean, you're really getting your money's worth compared to the other cars.

For the same price as the ISF, you get 35 more HP and 72 lbs of more Torque!

Any thoughts?

Sure, on paper the C63 is without a doubt the best value. However, there's more to these cars than just numbers. C63 is definitely the fastest, but imo you really got to just test drive each one to decide.

You can't just focus on hp and tq figure when you are comparing cars like this. You have to look at what it is YOU want from a car and then go drive the models that you feel best meet YOUR needs. Then you have to decide which is the best car for YOU. No magazine article or performance break down can tell you which car is going to be best for you.

All of the current crop of high performance sedans are fine cars. If you want a killer track tool you might lean toward the M3. If your more at home on the strip then the C63 might be your car. Maybe you drive a lot in less than ideal traction situations so the RS4 or S6 might be for you.

I chose the F because it had all the performance I wanting in a package that I could live with day to day. The handling is more than good enough for the street and no sloutch on the track either. Braking is fantastic as it should be in car of this caliber. Also, I have no complaints about acceleartion either. Throw in a very user friendly interior and Lexus quality and I think you could make an argument that the F is king of this group. Of course if your priorities vary from mine then you might pick another car as the best of the bunch.

At the Lexus website thats the weight that is given for the ISF. And yeah, I agree that you have to test drive each car, but test driving them on the streets won't really help you decide, will it?

Is there a way to test each car at a closed course, so you can really get the feel of each car and their true power.

I agree. I usually see the curb weight at close to 3800 lbs. I wish the OP's number was correct!

I doubt you will be able to test the car on a track, but if you are looking for a dedicated track tool you probably don't want any of these cars. The beauty of the sport sedan is you have a fairly practical car you can use as a daily driver that will also run with dedicated sports cars in most situations.

Sadly, it shows that the Lexus is about equal to the Benz. The Bmw beats the two by 4 seconds, but the Benz would've won if it didn't slip as much during the turns.

What would you use for stability, so the car won't slip? Something about a chasy* or whatever it is.

The S5 isn't a saloon. It's a coupe.

Welcome to the site! Where are you getting all these numbers from if you don't mind me asking?

I agree with what Cabinetman said earlier, if your considering getting any of the originally mentioned vehicles, you should definitely consider more then the numbers on paper and the magazine reviews of each of the cars. Go out and test drive, sit in and inspect the quality and maintenance programs of each of the cars your considering and then narrow it down from there.

Also evaluate what you are going to do with the car and what is important to you as a buyer. Are you looking for a track car, drag strip car, something in between? Are you big on comfortable interior, quality, reliability, maintenance, etc.? Are you looking to mod the car in any way, if so, that might also narrow down your options.

I got the numbers by doing a competitive comparison either at the lexus website or the mercedes website.

I basically want a fast car, a real fast car. I want it to last for a very long time, instead of starting to breakdown after passing 100k miles (bmw). I want there to be a luxurious interior, with a lot of comfort and convenience, but also the feel that you're packing some serious power under the hood. I don't intend to do track or drag strip racing, but just basically street racing some punk who thinks s/he has a faster car then me. An I usually race on the freeways, which i love to do. Which is basically in the same category as street racing, right?

I want all that in a car, and its going to be either the bmw, lexus or mercedes. But im leaning towards the mercedes right now.

Sorry, how old are you? Sure, it's a free society and everything, but if you're openly admitting to having the intention of doing something that takes thousands of innocent lives every year, I think you have a serious problem. You don't deserve any of the cars you're considering buying.

And also bear in mind that when you have a car like this (the IS-F, C63, RS4, M3, etc.), there's no need to prove anything to the "punk who thinks he has a faster car". There are very few cars in stock form that are faster than these, so basically there's nothing to prove.

Fail for listing the S5 in this class and fail for the 0-60 numbers. Fastest posted for the C63 is 4.1 seconds and 4.2 for the M3 and IS-F. Fail for judging the value of a car based on such numbers. Fail for street racing!

welcome and enjoy the forum!
