Default End of Day 1 after Tune

Here are my impressions after the first day of driving my ISF after tuning:

1. When the car is in normal mode it runs and drives much more like it used to when it was in Sport Mode. In fact, I forgot to place it in Sport Mode this morning on my way to work and didn't even notice that I hadn't.

2. Placed it in Sport Mode on the way home tonight. When traveling at 65-70 mph and pressing down about half way on the gas accelerator the transmission would easily kick down from 8th to 5th without hesitation. If I really stood on it the transmission would shift to 3rd rather quickly and I would accelerate to over 100 mph in a heartbeat.

WOT shifts are now at about 6700 - 6800 without hesitation when in automatic. I am not sure that I can choose shift points better than the transmission does. We will find out when I have the opportunity to take it to the drag strip. I will try both automatic and manual passes.

I have not yet made a "all out" TC off standing start. Will try to do so in the next day or so and report results.

Change is not drastic, but I had not anticipated that it would be. Adding 25-35 rwhp to a vehicle that has 350 rwhp will not change things drastically. It is not as if I added a S/C or T/C with 15# of boost.

As I said at the start of this thread, I look at this as one in a series of changes I will be making in my ISF to make it faster. First Tune, then Joe Z cat backs, then long tube headers (retune if necessary). It is highly unlikely that I will go as far as changing the cams in the near future to acheive more hp. That would be the next logical step in the progression.

Still operates as smooth as a Lexus when you are just cruising.

^^ Great feedback Pat!!

This way we can see what the hp/tq gains are from the MHP tune, hp/tq gain from the cat-backs, and hp/tq from combo.
^^ Very good... Now I completely understand your logic and it makes perfect sense since you will be using the same dyno shop as Peter...

Default Dyno Scheduled

The dyno pulls for my "MHP Tuned" only ISF are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, February 6th at ARD (the same place that houstonT dyno's his ISF with the Joe-Z headers only).

If UPS delivers my Joe-Z cat-backs on or before Friday as Carson Lexus believed, Mike and I will install it late Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning and then redyno again Saturday morning, Feb 7th.

Hey Pat,

I think you meant:
"PTS-Joe Z exhaust only"

As a side note, we have no plans to develop headers or long tubes at this time.

Also, I would recommend getting through the exhaust break in period, before dyno'ing it.. Again, just my opinion..

Awesome, keep us updated I'm anxious to compare the results from just an MHP Tune and a Joe Z exhaust only setup as well as both together

Give me a week or so and I'll have HD clips of our C63 system (granted it will have no cats and is full 3" with straight through mufflers so it will be a LOT louder than what you have planned).
Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure because the 5-0 here in so cal are really uptight about these kinda things and I don't want to attract any unnecessary attention. Especially because I have a clean record lol. So it stays under 93dB even at WOT? So the system you're doing is a full catback? Or a full out system? Or both? I don't want to worry about not passing emissions as well, or well, maybe not since it's 6 years down the road. It's just that if I do get pulled over and they see the cats missing, they'll make me fix that. So my last question would be, how is your system installed? Brackets or welded? Thanks again.

I think the biggest benefit to having FPR (Pat) dyno at ARD with just the tune is that we'll see what a car with ONLY exhaust does vs. a car with ONLY tune on the same dyno. Should be interesting!

p.s. Pat, call me again today, your darn number fell out of my call log and I tried calling you today!!!!!

Default Cat-back break-in period?

Joe Z,

How many miles do I need to run before the break in is completed. Talked with Andy and he wants me to put at least 50 hard miles on it after the exhaust conversion prior to the dyno. No problem on Saturday. I can make a small run towards San Antonio and back and do that in less than an hour.

Is the break-in to heat the system up to at least operating conditions to get any loose metal hairs out of the mufflers?

houstonT - Will call you in a littler bit. Very busy this afternoon so I am headed for a meeting as soon as I send this.

Should be a good combo as the exhaust is evidently a large restriction on the Fs.

NP, the only issue is that in Cali you can't run longtubes, you'd fail on the visual portion alone.

40-50 hard miles is enough for the ECU to relearn, we tell our customers with CDT (ECU/TCU) to run 200 as the TCU takes longer to learn than the ECU. So if you're dyno testing 40-50 hard in manual is ok, if track testing the full 200 is necessary.

Pat, I texted your tracking # to you, let me know if you didn't get it.

Thanks

Hi Pat,

Like BigMike mentioned, its approx 200 miles of regular driving.

The break in period allows the exhaust system to fully "burn in" and allow all that new exhaust "funny smell" to go away...

There will be nothing loose in the system or the mufflers. All our pipes go through a mild scrub wash cycle to make sure no particles are in the piping before our welding dept starts the TIG welding process.

For the ECU, I would say its in the 50-100 mile mark.. So thats why we like to use the approx. 200 mile period for the full exhaust break in process.

Thank You
Joe Z

Default Program Delay

Just called Carson to see where Joe-Z exhaust system is and was told it hadn't shipped yet. They originally told me that it would ship last Monday and I would have it by today.

That said, I assume that the system will not arrive until next Thursday, the day before we leave on vacation so there is no way I will get the exhaust installed and the dyno run made until after we get back. We will return on the 17th but I have to make a business trip on the 23rd - 25th. So it is likely that it will be the last week of the month before I can dyno with the Joe-Z exhaust installed..

This sucks, I thought I had everything planned out.

Pat sorry for the delay in shipping, our shipping dept dropped the ball in not getting it out sooner. If you have chance give me a call so I can retake your info and at least issue you a credit for the shipping.
