Why are some Lexus emblems filled in around the "L" symbol in the front grill, and some are not?

The lexus tech that did my alignment this past Saturday told me something funny about these cars equipped with the radar. Apparently they will set off cheap radar detectors.

Actually, the Laser Cruise systems are the ones that set off radar detectors. Lexus switched to the Adaptive Radar Cruise control w/'Pre Collsion System back in 06 with the first 2IS. The existing Laser cruise systems that Toyota/Lexus use, including Nissan/Infiniti will set off any radar detector, including my own Valentine One. The Laser alert obviously is set off.

Ahhh so thats what it was. The other day I was being followed by this car and my V1 was blowing up, but conveniently when I would make a turn and get out of sight it would stop, and as the car caught up it would go off again. I thought the damned thing was broken because it was a middle aged woman driving an SUV and we don't have undercovers in Ohio.
