Do Solid Lifters Mean Valve Adjustments?
I just read that the IS F will have solid lifters. Does that mean that engine maintenance will include a requiement for valve adjustments every 15,000 miles, like those required on the Acura NSX?
Now that I own an IS F and have read the maintenance schedule book (which has a publishing date of November, 2007), I can answer my own question. Yes the IS F will require periodic valve clearance inspections/adjustments, but the first inspection is not required until 60,000 miles.
I sold my NSX in 1998 and at that time they were charging about $600 for the valve inspection if the inspection showed that no valve adjustments were required. The NSX required valve inspections/adjustments every 15,000 miles. We have all now seen under the engine cover of the IS F and the valve inspections will require a lot of work by the mechanic, but the good part is it won't have to be done very often.
Although I have had my IS F only a few days it is everything I was hoping for and I have no regrets.

I just searched and found the thread where lobuxracer posted a technical drawing of the assembly. He said the cams must be completely removed for shim replacement.
Excellent.
Edit: The build your own IS-F option is up on Lexus' website. It doesn't seem to be working properly right now.

The IS F is a lot like my IS 350, except a lot more power, a lot more brakes, and really nailed down on to the ground. I am please that the ride, like the IS 350, is firm but not harsh as some had suggested in earlier reviews. No regrets, just having fun.

How are the paddle shifters?? Are they as quick as advertised??
Was is worth the upgrade??
I haven't really tested the paddle shifters yet, but I do like the fact that you can use them while you are in drive.
I figure it costs about $15,000 to $20,000 more than an IS 350, and for me it was worth it to get the power, brakes and handling. I gave my IS 350 to my wife and I still think it is a great car and so does she.
the paddle shifters are indeed extremely quick. I drove the IS-F on the dyno/rollers at our local auto show. Just as fast as I had seen in youtube videos. Car is already shifted by the time you tell yourself to let go of the paddle. Seats are awesome also.
