Errr, when I look at it again now, I don't even remember exactly what my point was Doesn't look like I was even responding to your post Probably due to my multi-tasking while posting

Hmm... lengthened stroke... so that means it won't rev as high, right? I would've liked to see a slightly destroked 5.0L (perhaps to 4.8 or 4.9) motor that can rev to at least 7,000rpms or higher.

Interesting read. My direct sources said interesting things to come by 2007 a while ago. I'm not doubting them one bit.

It's also interesting if they can put the 5.0 V8 into the IS, but they may be having some trouble putting the 4.6 V8 into the new GS for the GS460 as some reported ?
Is the engine bay of the IS bigger than the GS then ? If they can make a IS500, what about a GS500 ?

I remember seeing that IS testmule with the hood bulge in Car and Driver magazine last year. Looks like Lexus is finally ready to take on BMW M Can we get a V10 for the GS too Lexus

From what I know, them not being able to fit the 4.6L V8 into the GS bonnet was just a rumor when it was unclear if it would happen or not. Now, it's more or less clarified.

A GS500 would be nice...but with a 380HP GS 460, a 400 or 425 HP GS 500 would be a bit redundant, no?

I thought it's only a rumour too, but they might have encountered some problems initially & have to shoehorn it in. I am pretty sure they can make it fit into the GS460, but then will it be even harder for the 5.0 V8 ?
As for a GS500 with say 420 hp, if that's 40 hp over the 380hp GS460, it's pretty significant already. Remember the difference between a Mercedes S430 & a S500 is only 27 hp (302 vs. 275).

umm, good point there, definitely they want to detune the engine for better efficiency. but now i am thining (evil me again). so say if the engines are the same between ls600hl and is500, does that mean there are ways to put parts from the is500 to ls600hl to make it an even more powerful cars? to push out that much more power, i think it probably has more than just the ecu timing and such. ummmmm

like others said, let's first assume that rumor is true. couple of things to think and note. the new 5.0l engine on the ls600hl, is that base on the 4.6l engine on the ls460? i might have missed info on this. coz' the ls600hl has the hybrid engine as well, and seeing the ls460 in person, i don't know if they had to design the ls600hl engine in any special way to allow the hybrid.

and that aside, instead of just pure engine bay space, it can be more about the shape and one particular dimension. one good example is the is300. believe it or not, space wise it's probably easier to put in the 4.3l v8 than the 3.0l i6, mostly due to the particular long shape of the i6 and also its height. so back on the gs460, if they really had trouble on the engine placement, it could be just one little dimension where it's 1 or 2 inches off but the IS chassis happens to have slack there

if we continue to think more on the serious, they will have the is500. so how are they going to do the gs then?

Great, now I got to revamp what I thought I was going to get
right... i have an feeling Lexus Europe would not be too involved, after deciding not to import IS350 in the first place...

I see, that makes sense.

As you have discussed in the 3GS forum, between a GS600h & a GS with the V10 "IF" they're making a higher performance version. I think the 5.0 V8 should eventually make it into all the RWD Lexus car models.

Now the other thing I've been wondering is...will the SC hybrid be a SC 450h or a SC 600h?

Hmmm...

With the convertible hardtop in the trunk plus the batteries of a hybrid, there will be NO trunk space left lol. . . unless they can come out with much smaller batteries
