Default Windows up with the top down

Being new to convertibles, isit safe to raise the windows with the top down. Is it safe to drive with the windows up and the top down?

I used to own a 1995 SL500 and often had top down and windows up especially in the early Spring before weather got warmer here in NY. I just picked up an IS250C and briefly reviewed the manual and did not see anything re: top down / Windows. I suspect all would be good - perhaps depending on your anticipated travel speed. Hopefully other - longer time owners, will be able to offer more.

No problem with the top down and the windows in any position. It is worth noting that when closing the roof the display indicates 'Completed' when the sequence finalises - however if you continue to hold the button the four windows will subsequently close.

As your concern is safety - it is dangerous to sit in the rear of an open-top car.

So it’s safe even on the highway to have the windows up? Should the windows be down when you close the top?

The windows will go down when you press the button to close the roof.

As long as you are not taller than the roll hoops (not the headrests), it is ok.

To be clear, when you close the roof

- windows open
- roof goes through its closure sequence then displays indicates 'Completed'
- maintaining your finger on the button causes all windows to fully close

Thanks I understand. Is it safe to put the windows up after the roof has opened, and then drive it on the highway. In other words are the windows in the up position strong enough to stand highway speeds when the top is down without damaging the windows?

As everyone is telling you, yes, it is safe. There aren't highway speed winds coming at the windows sideways.

Thanks Amy, I caused the confusion by not asking the question properly. I knew all the mechanics. I was just worried that the windows didn’t have enough support without the roof.

Youre fine- I was driving like that yesterday but If you want to lessen the wind without raising the windows, just buy a wind deflector on Ebay. Theres a place in the Netherlands that sells them for $108. Drill two holes in those round trim pieces in back for the support bar and youre done. 15 minute job.

As someone who always drives with the top down. It is perfectly fine to drive with the top down and windows up. I always drive on the freeway with the windows up if the top is down. It gets rid of most of the wind coming in paired that with the windscreen its almost nothing. I even drove high speeds (XXXmph) like that and no issues.

I WILL say that the windows will rattle a little at high speeds if it's really windy for obvious reasons.

Thanks to all. Drove on the highway today with the top down and windows up at highway speeds. Could actually hear the radio better and converse with my wife.
