Default Engine Oil Analysis - 2023 IS500

Not sure how many, if any, other IS500 owners have shared oil analysis results on their motor (either once or over time). I plan to test my engine oil 3 times; more if I end up doing power modifications or using the car differently (in a significant way). I use Blackstone Labs for analysis on my track cars; I'm not sponsored or affiliated with Blackstone, I like the communication I can have with their analysts.

For context, because context matters, I live in the SF area, I drive short and long trips, the car will see more backroads and some frequency of sustained higher RPMs (around 1,500 miles on a backroad drive, I saw the oil temp rise above the usual half mark. I wish we could see, on the dash, the actual temperature or have rough markings indicating a temp range (I know its a street car but it's a nice touch).

I'll update the thread as I get more results in. Feel free to share your results if you have them!

I just got mine back today from my first oil change at about 1100kms, my copper is even higher than yours, which I'm a little concerned about but if it drops off alot the next one it should be fine I think. My toyota highlander had really high copper at the first oil change too and is fine now.

Thank you for sharing. I'm curious how the SUS Viscosity baseline is different between ours. I'd expect that to be the same value they're basing their measurements off of.
I pretty much expect the next change/analysis to come back improved - in spite of harder use and longer duration. I will consider switching over the synthetic depending on how my dealer prices it with the "free" oil change.

Ya that is weird, My first thought was maybe it was because I'm in Canada but they should be the same from the factory. Maybe there's just that much tolerance in the oil. I did the oil change myself and put in Amsoil SS and I plan on changing again in another 2000kms, I'll post my results again then. I actually really love this, seeing other people's results, gives you something to compare it to.

Here's another 1200 miles, elevated copper in other samples ended up being the reason i did an early service.

I don't know if any of that is damaging to the engine - maybe "damage" would be the wrong way to describe it, but perhaps premature wear? Or, is it perfectly harmless? I don't know. Y'all have activated my paranoia now.

are you talking about the elevated copper, iron and silicone in our reports? For me its a little concerning as you never want extra metal shavings coming from inside your engine. I do think it's pretty normal but I'm going to be doing extra oil changes until the numbers come down, which I'm sure they will.

My first 3 oil changes are 1000 miles 5000 miles and 10,000 miles and every 5k after that.

I used Blackstone Labs for the analysis of the oil in my Porsches. I grabbed a sample of the oil from my first oils change at 1200 miles and will be sending it in, but I do not know the type of oil used from the factory. I was wondering if anyone on here knows what brand of oil comes in our engines from the factory. Thanks

Take it for what it's worth, but I was told by my sales person and the Service Dept when I recently purchased my IS500, that the car comes from factory with Dino Oil (Not synthetic). You get 2 complimentary oil changes shortly after 1000 miles with another Dino Oil. With the 2nd complimentary, you can use Synthetic. Don't know how accurate that is, but they were pretty adamant amount not using Synthethic for your first oil change.

Exactly what the car comes with from the factory is unknown to me. These engines use regular (non-synthetic) 5w30 motor oil - keep in mind this is an old motor at its core. If the dealer is good, they'll offer you both options - at mine its ~$30 difference.

Your sales person, is familiar with the bulk of Lexus' current offerings ,but please refer to your warranty and service manual for the specifics of your car. Generally for the IS500, the 2 services are at 1K mile and 5k miles (1 month and 6 months respectively). The first service is an inspection and top-off of any fluids - there's no fluid changes/exchanges at that time. We get 1 free oil change at 5k miles/6mo. You can choose to have your oil changed at 1K and pay for it.

Thanks for the info. I am in the process of reading the entire owner's manual. Will get to the oil section soon
