fit cam x user here. works great and easy to install. i do with the wiring was a bit shorter. pain to manage.
another option if you don't want to hardwire is getting an OBDII adapter to power the cam. all cars with OBDII have pins for powering anything connected. it's clean power that you don't have to tap into existing wiring or a tap a fuse. i run this setup on my wrx and it has also been flawless.
I finally dumped my Rexing dash cam. I have had the Rexing on multiple vehicles without issue, until the Lexus. I just kept having power issues. It was installed on the passenger side, similar to the factory position in arentz07 post above. While driving, it was out of site - out of mind. I purchased the FitCamX from their site. it showed up in about 10 days. The pigtail with the dashcam is plug and play to the mirror connectors. I didn't like how my Rexing rear camera was mounted on the rear glass/tint. It kept me from using the sunshade. So, we pulled the 3rd brake light housing, drilled a hole, installed a grommet, and centered the camera lens with the brake light housing. Then we ran the cable through the trunk liner, across the passenger side, to the camera. I am much happier with the overall look of the setup. Connection via their app is wi-fi. I have an Android Auto adapter which must be unplugged to connect to the camera because the adapter wants to reconnect automatically every time I connect to the camera. It's not the end of the world for me since I only need to access the camera if I need to download footage. The camera system I purchased (front and rear camera) comes with a power button and camera button (for taking a quick picture) on the housing, as well as small LEDS to confirm the unit is recording. If you use the supplied pigtail, the camera will turn on and off with your ignition. Recording starts automatically. If you want to record while parked, they sell a hardwire kit too.
I noticed you have your blendmount at the end the of the mirror stalk. Do you have vibration in the rearview mirror going over bumps? Mine moves so much it's an eyesore, and I plan on removing it and going back to a suction cup.
I mean, I avoid crappy roads as much as possible. It's kind of a loaded question... lol yeah it vibrates over bumpy roads, but I am on those roads so infrequently it's not an issue for me. In my area, almost all the roads are smooth as butter. If I lived somewhere with crap roads, say Houston, it would most likely be an issue for me...
I’m using the garmin mini 2/3 and also bought the obd2 adapter. It has three modes for 10min, 24hr, and on constantly, the box says it’ll turn off if the voltage dips too low. Super easy install and no messing with the fuse box!
I'm also running two Garmin minis and the OBD2 adapter. I don't like how they got rid of the 24-hour vault storage on the 3, so I went with another 2 when I added the rear cam. It is super easy to use. I did turn off the alert sound when it records off of the incident sensor though.
I used a Dongar adapter to 'tap' into the mirror. It is a plug and play harness with a USB A plug. I'm sure there are other brands too. Only issue is tucking it in to close everything back up.
