zman - The issue is I live 4h away and I don't want to have several hundred Km put on a car for something that could easily be repaired in advance, I mean pretty much all of them have this issue. The gasket is a 20$ part, so doing it proactively would not hurt anyone at least for customers who live away. Sometime, you can't just apply a blanket approach to things. Keep in mind that for me to drive 4h each way, put 600 miles on the odometer and such, that is not something I want to go through. I understand if it is something totally unexpected and such, but this gasket issue is well known and documented so why jump into a car purchase, spend 20k more only to have more inconvenience right out of the gate. Again, I am not trying to sound dramatic and such, I know this is not a reliability issue, it is a minor issue and such, it is just the inconvenience factor for me, and there is no way I would let anyone pick up my car and deliver it when its repaired, not for that level of mileage involved

is500le - Yeah, I was trying to have this issue resolved prior to me picking up the car but it can't be done so that is a deal breaker for me. So I guess a white one with red interior will be up for grabs (lol)

That is quite a distance, but it seems like you have a good relationship with the dealer. I still think it's worth a try to get them to proactively open a case with Lexus and agree to inspect the exhaust considering how far away you live. Hell, link them to this thread. Lots of evidence of the problem.

^^ I have already asked them, and it appears it can't be done. Yeah, if they would allow a local Toyota dealer to do the repair, that would be one thing but was told it can't be done. I have already sent them the link to this thread, trust me....

In the end , it's not a big deal, it's not like I don't like what I have now

Last ditch effort to contact Lexus corporate yourself?

https://pressroom.lexus.com/2022-lex...f-distinction/

There's a PR contact on the initial press release last year. Might be worth a try.

^^ I am in Canada so that won't work but from experience, if the dealer tried to get Lexus Canada to authorize the proactive repair, I doubt they'll change their mind. I had even offered to buy the part myself and have the repaired executed and I would pay myself but I was told there are no parts available....All back ordered here

So weird they wouldn’t give you a loaner. My dealership is great about that.

this is heartbreaking news 💔

^^ Likely they don't want the customer to put lots of mileage on the loaner car, but its fine for us to put lots on ours to go back to have something repaired that we know will fail (lol)

My dealer knew about the issue because I told them. They checked it out and reset the torque setting. I haven't had the issue popup so that may be all is needed. Of course this is all conjecture as I could get it tomorrow or never.

I think history will show you regretted not getting it. It's a special car that won't come around again, EVER. I know it's just a car but why not get "the one".

Im telling you guys...someone at the Tahara plant doesn’t know how to use a torque wrench. The gasket doesn’t need replacing, it’s just a cop out to hide the fact they can’t torque

shame on Lexus for not putting out a bulletin yet.

here come the haters

It would be great if someone tried re-torqueing after receiving the code. If it resolves it, then we'll all know it's a super easy fix.

I appreciate all your comments and I agree the 500 is a great car, but I have zero patience for things like this where we know what the issue is, we know they all have it and treat it as if it's something they have no idea. Add the inconvenience part and everything else (like almost 8$ a gallon) and I am OK in passing....

I regret till this day not purchasing a brand new 2014 ISF back in 2014. Only 86 units were produced for USA Market.
