I'm mostly against overlays because I believe it adds a layer / looks & feels like a sticker but I was looking at these. I wanted to purchase these parts but a carbon fiber shift **** costs $250 and the steering wheel pieces look to cost another $250 and you have to remove the steering wheel.. just a bunch of work I don't have time to figure out or learn. I found this on eBay and they look thin to me and I feel like it wouldn't compromise the feel of the interior. Has anyone got these or dealt with this?
I've had friend who purchased overlays, they aren't too bad just flimsy in my opinion. I do have the full steering wheel and shift **** done which weren't hard to remove and install. It felt a lot better than the factory steering wheel honestly and it looks so much better.
I have both of these pieces in my car (not from same seller, but same thing) and I really like them both.
Pieces like this that are a hard carbon fiber shell, look and feel good imo. The other overlays that are just flexible stickers (like the ones often used on center console, around window switches, ect) are very hit or miss, I've seen ones that look awful and other that look good.
The piece that goes on the lower portion of the steering wheel looked great on both my OEM wheel, as well as my newer flat bottom carbon fiber steering wheel.
Note: I have seen a straight up flexible sticker version of the lower steering wheel part, imo that = not good at all, looks bad and doesn't cover the edges correctly, but the one thats a hard shell, like the one you linked, looks great imo
I removed all my door plates and scuff plates and modified them to carbon fiber...
I also applied a transparent PPF to both scuff plates to avoid scratching by stepping over them.
I am having carbon fiber steering wheel and shift **** as well...
too lazy to mod the center console so it's just a STICKER (made with real carbon fiber cloth) on top.
applied another STICKER (also, made with real carbon fiber cloth) after I mod. both seats to ventilated seats (from none):
Bought this wireless charging panel for almost a year but I'm too lazy to install it...
My opinion on CF is definitely an unpopular one. CF is to cars these days, as wood paneling and shelf paper was to homes in the 60's, 70's and 80's; as well as Eurolights a few years ago. It isn't needed, but for some reason, everyone keeps doing it. CF is cool if it's factory and it's a added bit of flair due to an OEM package. That's it. Anything else just looks like everyone else's car who keeps putting fake CF on it.

Wood has many different styles and that's why it doesn't look good because the style changes over time (dark trim wood, light wood) and it all wears depending on the type of wood used. Carbon fiber littered all over the LFA which is a car valued nearly $1mill. Carbon fiber has a functional role and also visually enhances due to it's nice depth it produces in different light. Carbon fiber will never go out of style or it wouldn't be used in cars that appreciate in value. But I do agree, some people plaster it everywhere and it looks tacky. I don't like the steering wheel fake aluminum look and the steering wheel control looks straight out of a Toyota RAV4 from 2008.

You could say the same thing about the plastic Y shape piece or the steering wheel controls on the steering wheel which are made of significantly worse material than authentic carbon fiber.

you can see that I bought that piece in my above-posted picture, but I did not install it after consideration.

faked carbon fiber is surely not a good option but the real stuff looks and feels great.
the real stuff has true texture in it, not just a pattern (look).
I have been enjoying these mods so much.
