Default Wrapped roof

Those of you with a wrapped roof, which vinyl did you go with? And how is it holding up in terms of scratches?

I'm looking to do gloss black.

Thanks in advance!

Chinese vinyl. Been holding up for over 6 months and barely scratches that I see. Gloss however will scratch regardless, I went with Satin finish instead since they aren't noticeable.

Thanks for the quick reply, I edited the first post since I'm looking to do Gloss and not Satin/Matt.

From what I was told. There are certain colors you can get PET versions that should be more resistant to scratches and stains. I haven't tested them yet but they cost a bit more. I prefer Chinese vinyl since the air technology is similar to 3M or Avery from what I have experienced.

I would say 3M is more of the tacky side like duct tape versus Avery isn't too bad. If you treat it like paint but with extra care. You will be able to minimize scratches. Just got to make sure you pre-rinse the roof good before the two bucket method. Good soap also helps as well. You don't need special soap but any soap with added lubricants help.

Edit: I have a few friends with gloss and primarily doors and bumpers will see most of the scratches. The roof doesn't sustain much road rash or parked cars.

I drive the car in winter - Quebec winters which are the worst in the North America - so I'd like it to withstand that type of weather, plus a snowbrush going across it often, which is why I'm wondering if it can even withstand that...

I don't want to do the job twice, I was about to go with Vvivid up until I saw some YouTube videos and most people are using Avery (it's also double the price of the Vvivid).
3M is the most expensive one.

I got mine done at a shop and I'm pretty sure they used some cheaper vinyl. They told me not to take it through the car wash, I've had it over 1.5 years and take it through the car wash and it hasn't lifted. I don't think it matters much honestly. I believe the 'quality' you mention, has more to do with how the vinyl holds up and looks, mine has hairline scratches on it and color looks a tiny bit faded but still looks fine to me. I think the life of vinyl is about 3-5 years anyways.

Ahh ok, I saw a few in person and it all looks like crap (looks great on YouTube/Instagram though haha!)

Thanks for the quick answers, I think I'll skip on this mod.

In one way, you can look at it as it's protecting your paint from the elements. Roof wraps are generally cheap and do change the look of the car, I think you should get it especially if your car is white and tinted.

The downside is the winter, when I have to take the snow/ice off, I'm almost certain this vinyl will scratch and look like ****.
I don't want to spend ~$200 to find out if it will hold up or not haha!

For me, the best gloss black vinyl i've used or seen is vvivid's newest extreme gloss black pro (the newest version which has a clear stiff plastic backing)

anything else in my experience, including 3m gloss, looks like a garbage bag pulled tightly over your car and does not replicate paint at all.

all satin, all matte are out the window for me and massive no-nos.

Best of course is paint but that can be cost-prohibitive and non-reversible so for a roof, HIGH QUALITY HIGH END UPGRADED gloss black vinyl only. Maybe things are different in 2022 but again, most black vinyls are horrible and look very not.. glossy.

I used the above and it looks like wet paint. it's immaculate.

$100? I got quoted over here (Montreal) $500-$600... $200 is if I do it myself.

Do you have a link for the new Vvivid vinyl? Might try it on other parts (front grill)

I'm definitely not considering painting it.
