Default sun/moon roof

Does the RX330 still have the panoramic sun/moon roof available?

Thank You for your responses

You can get a description at lexus.com but there are no pictures. Here is a photo of the Harrier with the multi-panel roof.

The model being crash-tested on page 10 of the e-brochure has the multi-panel moonroof, although it's not a very good picture. You really can't tell what it would look like with the roof open.

This picture from the owners manual might give you an idea of how it works:

I inquired about the multi panel sunroof when we were buying the 400h and the saleman said they don't sell any because the noise at highway speeds was uneceptable.

The multi-panel roof was offered, but was sold primarily, I believe, in California in the spring of '03 as an '04 model. I wondered about its ability to seal properly, and why it seemed to disappear from the regular options selected by dealers. It must be a bear to air condition in the southern climes.

Lil4X is correct about it being mainly offered in California. They actually got some for stock in California in 2003; everywhere else it was a special-order only. Lexus of Naperville (Illinois) actually got one "by accident" in May 2003, so I got to see it in person! Pretty cool option, although I agree that it would be pretty warm inside in the summer. There is a sunshade for it just like the normal moonroof, but that would sort of defeat the purpose.

The reason it disappeared was that the roof panels vibrated and made noise at higher speeds, although that rattling noise finally got fixed in October 2003 with a redesign of the tracks that hold the roof in. With all of that glass, I'm sure that there is some element of road or wind noise to contend with, and maybe that's what KenLex 41 is referring to.

The roof is structurally sound, and it doesn't take away from crash test results, so it's not a safety problem.

Damn. That really sucks. I liked that option. Hopefully they switch to a One Piece Panorama roof like the one on the Caddy SRX. A great majority of those cars are sold with that option as there is no regular moonroof option.

Sorry... I didn't mean to imply it's unavailable. It's just that after a lot of hype at the introduction of the RX 330, the multi-panel moonroof sort of faded away very quickly because of the rattle and the decision to limit the marketing of it to a very small area.
But you're right - it's not actually gone. It can still be ordered.
