Default What triggers the oil change/maintenance notification?

Trying to understand what triggers this notification? Search only yields how to clear the notification, which isn't the question.

Is it based upon time since last reset or mileage since last reset or something else? Perhaps a sensor that monitors the oil?

Thanks.

I believe mileage since last service. On my 2016, when you start the car, where your odometer reading is briefly shows how many miles left until 10k miles since last light reset.

Can independent mechanic reset after the oil change?
No notice of inspection due, right? My Audi has that notice and only dealership can update it.

You can go into the Vehicle Maintenance menu in the multi display and reset and/or customize reminders...even create reminders of your own.
The oil and filter reminders are actually seperate.
I customized mine to remind me every 5K kms to change the oil and filter since my wife mostly drives my IS now...and she can't seem to let me know when the reminder goes off...but that's a whole other issue that's not the cars fault.

There is a probably a monitor that keeps up with engine running hours that also interpolates how many miles/km it has gone.

It may be tried and true mechanical technology from diesel engines like big generators, front end loaders etc or instead of an analog mechanical meter it may use a digital way of storing the 'hours ran' information. It may be something monitored using the odometer depending on the technology available when the vehicle was produced.

My work truck is set for hours and gives an "oil life remaining" status since it spends a lot of time idling to keep flashing lights from depleting the battery. So there may be times it has gone 2-3k miles (or less at times) and says change the oil, but if it's all road miles between oil changes it may read 30% remaining at the reccomended 5k mile interval.

My old Honda Prelude had a nifty little thing next to the speedometer where a little box shaped indicator stayed green for 7500 miles and turned red at that point to remind the driver to change the oil and rotate the tires. It worked mechanically from the odometer. You reset it simply pushing a paper clip end into a little hole next to it and it would switch to green. I changed the oil every 90 days instead of by miles.
