I took the IS out for some driving in the mountains today.
It is a little dirty, but it's been frigid and rainy a lot here lately! Figured I'd spend the good weather day driving instead of washing for a change.
Thanks! I'm honestly surprised how many people compliment the color...I love it, but I know red isn't everyone's tastes.

When I was initially looking for my car, I was surprised how few Infrared there were out there, given Lexus went heavy on it in PR images. It's definitely a "look back" car, and I love that. I was considering upgrading to a 500, but...well, I got to personalize this one as a special order, and I can't really do that with how they packaged the 500, which bums me out. That aside, I'm also surprised how little I see Atomic Silver and USB...I love how those look on the 21+, but it seems every one I've seen near me is white, cloudburst, or black.

If I couldn’t find a USB IS 500, the Infrared was my second choice. I read a few posts where folks said a rare color or one that matched the marketing spec were the best ones to grab for uniqueness. I don’t know if that was true, but it’s an interesting opinion.

And usually those making the compliment are driving a boring white, grey, or black car.

I’ve only bought one car new (red), all the other used cars were red also. Manufacturers **** me off by not making more ‘lively’ colored cars, so there’d be more choices available (sure, maybe I should order cars new, but I prefer to let someone else take the depreciation hit).

They don’t focus on other colors, because most people only want Black, White, and Grey/Silver. It’s really interesting to review the surveys.

I could see that being true, but at the same time, it seems so counterintuitive and strange...you would think the marketing material would inspire more "oh, I have to have that!" type of reaction. However, many people will settle for what's on the lot, rather than order, so there's that, too.

Unfortunately, you're right in that buying new is the only way to attempt to influence the manufacturers. In some cases, you're just stuck - I bought a Juke Nismo RS before for kicks (last Japan built, 6MT Nissan that wasn't a Z), and my choices were white, silver, and black...lol. It seems with some cars that we're getting lucky, though. While I'd probably never buy one, god bless Dodge for going nuts on the muscle car colors.

I'd be very curious how much of that comes down to "well, I wanted that color, but I just took what was in inventory". I know some people do want it, but I can't imagine nearly everyone wants to be an NPC.
Side note on beautiful 3IS colors - I would love if Lexus did a Nori Green IS. That would be a cool throwback to the rare green first gens.
