Hey Fam i just joined the club and got a nice 200t f sport. 2016. i love it and a big upgrade from my is250 (2nd gen)
knowing this is a turbo is there anything i should be concerned about? i know lexus is pretty reliable.
while on that topic what are the potential long term reliability/repair issues i should worry about for the 3IS?
sorry if this info is out there if someone can link me to a list that would be great. for example my is250 is known for peeling dash board and door panels in the heat and problems with carbon build up. i know no car is perfect
i will keep it stock for now but may get a tune to get some more power. would love to see what y’all recommend me
The 8AR-FTS is pretty reliable as a whole. The main issues that I've seen others have are the diverter valve blowing. I've owned my 200t for the past 3 almost 4 years (62k miles on the odo currently) and have had very few issues. Literally runs just like the day I've bought it. A bit of water pump weep here and there, but nothing to lose sleep over.
The only major issue I've had with the engine was an ignition coil pack blowing up and putting my car in limp mode while trying to get to speed in the middle of a busy highway. But I was running a JB4 tune at the time so I'm attributing it to that. Scared me enough to keep it stock even though the tune felt so good power-wise .

Congrats, agree a great choice. I did tons on research prior to purchasing and the 200t checked all the boxes for me. Reliability is a non-factor, this is the bread and butter powertrain in many Lexus IS/NX/UX/RX and has very little issues. Enjoy
