Default iPhone 11 Pro Max does not charge via USB

I noticed that the car will read that my iPhone is plugged in via USB and I can play music but my phone does not charge. Does this mean not enough amp/voltage is being given by the port? Pretty sad.

Very likely so because you have Pro Max with huge battery. It's not that hard to buy a dedicated USB power plug there's an 12v cigarette outlet in armrest.

Rather not have my cigarette outlet taking up an absurd amount of room in an already small center console. On top of that, I shouldn't have to settle.. it's a USB port, should be capable of charging a phone (which it is for the non plus version phones).. Nonetheless, thanks for the suggestion, I will look into that

Try resetting your phone. That’s happened to me before. Anytime anything weird happens with the phone to car connection, reboot the phone. 10/10 times for me it’s worked

Check for dust in your port, or a faulty cord. Mine charges just fine, it's this ****ty interface and lack of CarPlay that drive me mad...

I've had my car since new in 2016 and never noticed a 12v outlet... Where is it?

Center console on the right below the USB ports. I've seen another member post stating they didn't have a 12V outlet in their IS as well.

This is going to blow my mind if it's there. I have complained to my wife so many times about the lack of an outlet.

Should be back with the car tonight. I cannot wait to check haha

there is a port cover that you may need to pry open. Good luck!

When I had my IS and needed an emergency charger on a long trip since I forgot my charger in my other car, I plugged in my iPhone with navigation running and while it was receiving power, the phone was consuming more power than the port could provide. So it was draining ever so slowly even while plugged in and the charging indicator on. Yes weak.

I don't even mess with that. I get a high powered iPad type charger for the car that juices up the iphone extremely aggressively even with google/apple maps running and spotify streaming and screen on 100%.

so basically you need a very aggressive charger that you plug in for modern phones.

I would never charge my phone thru Lexus USB ports they're designed for USB music or iphone to be used as ipod. Newer cars have dedicated PD ports just for power delivery.

I've been doing this for 7 years now, first with my 2014 Camry and my 2019 Lexus. With the usb port, It charges and plays music at same time. What is there to lose?
