Looking at Toyota/ Lexus model cycles from over the years. 10 years is the Max a model lives until is axed or redesigned from the ground up.

I could see the IS go the way of the dodo with the current sales figures and current market trend shift towards SUV/ crossovers. The looming market forcast and the on going recession to depression scenario might make it disappear faster.

The competition also will further take away from the sales.

Will the IS even make it to 2024? Or will it be discontinued in 2022 or 2023.

I think it will make it to 2024 then the next generation of the car will be launched.
Right now the indications point to an electric IS as the next gen.

I cant see them getting completely rid of their only affordable entry level sedan. I was thinking the same thing until recently. But i don't think the IS is going anywhere. Lexus did say a year or two ago that they were going all hybrid/electric by 2025....so that's the way Lexus is going and my guess is they are putting all their time and money developing those platforms right now. I do think they may rename the IS, but I just don't see them getting rid of this entry level sedan.....each car manufacturer has to keep at least one affordable sedan in it's fleet.

Another reason to buy this car. Electrification will ruin the car in my opinion.

I urge anyone who is curious about what an electric IS would feel like to go test drive a Model 3 Performance. 0-60 in 3 seconds, almost 1G lateral grip, and perfect weight distribution with super low center of gravity. Just go test drive one... Keep in mind its only ~$5k more than a fully loaded IS350 F-Sport.

I've tried one and the speed is great. But aside from hating both the exterior and interior design, I still want to be able to hear the engine revving and exhaust note....so for now it's a no go for me when it comes to going fully electric.

I fully understand. It's not for everyone but some will completely love the experience and others will know it's not for them. I was seeking more performance from my car and this fit the bill. Supercar speed in a family sedan.

EZZ - I get that some love the rush of the acceleration in an electric vehicle but for me, I much prefer a combustion engine and besides, where I live, access to high speed charging stations are scarce. While everyone drools over the model 3 and tesla, I despise their interior and such.

I will hold on to my gas combustion and naturally aspirated engine for as long as I can....It is bad enough they killed the manual, now they want to kill the 'real' cars - I will laugh when they realize the grid can't support the entire electric car demand, and the battery's minerals required to make them...heck, Toyota can't even produce enough batteries for their Rav 4

As I stated, i understand your preferences and I only tell people to go test drive a Tesla because it would be most representative of what an electric sports sedan would feel like. I can understand if people prefer ICE for the more analog experience. Its good to have choices in this segment

But as OP stated, new trends shifting towards the Crossover/SUV route. Maybe that was the whole point of the UX, maybe they shift to that being their entry level vehicle and retire the IS for a couple years until the want for cars returns. I have been looking at getting a small crossover with small terrain tires for a daily. The UX could be a contender for this idea haha.

I'm sure people at some point missed hearing their horseys trot and gallop, hearing those hooves strike the dirt. But at some point humanities gotta advance. May as well come with. =)

I'm pretty sure once I test out a Tesla or something similar, driving an ICE vehicle is going to feel so dumb. I already get a bit of that after driving a regular ICE car after driving my hybrid. Like why is this engine burning all this gas at a stop light?

So what? citing exceptions doesn't change the rule. some people still poop in holes too. that doesn't mean anything.

my ideal situation would be to not own a car at all. the idea of spending $500 a month for 5-7 years to own a giant 3,500 lb. metal contraption that requires a lot of money and care to keep it running is going to be stone age stuff in a couple-few hundred years.

I'd prefer to ride public transport and/OR own a small and SUPER cheap electric transportation device that you can get around with when its more convenient.

Not a reality in most places in the US though. Jealous of people in asia that take mostly public transport or have a little scooter to go around in if needed.

We slave away for our $35,000 contraptions
