Whatever the case, maintain your cars, 3rd Gen IS will go down as iconic.

If anything I'd say the 1st gen Lexus IS is iconic. 3rd gen is heavy, porky, slow, and lacking compare to other cars in its era. I don't think it'll go down as iconic. Iconic cars have manual transmissions. Just sayin'!

my ideal situation would be to not own a car at all. the idea of spending $500 a month for 5-7 years to own a giant 3,500 lb. metal contraption that requires a lot of money and care to keep it running is going to be stone age stuff in a couple-few hundred years.

I'd prefer to ride public transport and/OR own a small and SUPER cheap electric transportation device that you can get around with when its more convenient.

Not a reality in most places in the US though. Jealous of people in asia that take mostly public transport or have a little scooter to go around in if needed.

We slave away for our $35,000 contraptions
EVs don't require much maintenance and its just a big toy for me. You can look at a car like an obligation or you can look at it like your most precious toy you own. Its how much enjoyment you get out of your car that determines that. Sounds like your hybrid is boring so its just an appliance for you. My car is my personal roller coaster and I look forward to blasting around in it whenever i can. Being useful is secondary to me

Doesn't help that find virtually every hybrid and EV ugly, especially give their prices.

Eye of the beholder. The car as a toy comment is actually for any car you own. For enthusiasts, a car is just a big, precious toy that we take immense pleasure in.

If I didn't have my Tesla, I'd still probably love whatever car I'd buy because I would have chosen it carefully based on my preferences.

My entertainment isn't derived from a 3,500 lb transportation device. At least not since I was 17. And no ***** electric cars have less maintenance. The point I was trying to make is that cars in general are a huge money pit for what they do: move us around. They are a depreciating asset that guys jerk thousands into in terms of wraps, PPF, body kitz, exhaust etc. As if merely just owning the car wasn't financially detrimental as it is.

I think people will realize this in the future when all cars look like horse and buggy and transportation is modernized

Honestly, i feel the complete opposite especially in this environment. I won't use public transport in the next year if I can help it for fear of getting a life threatening virus. My family will be transported in a cocoon of complete isolation from the outside world and whereever we decide to vacation will be driven to. If there is complete electrification and autonomous automation of cars, why fly domestically when i can tell the car to get me there while i sleep through the night? I think this pandemic will put a huge asterisk on whether we build out any more public transporation.

^^ The "green" are going crazy over this pandemic because everything they stand for almost goes out the window...Public transportation, use of recycling bags, bringing in your reusable coffee cup etc (At least in Canada)

and on the topic of cars being a money pit, I agree that they are a depreciating asset however, if you enjoy cars, then that is what living and working is all about. I have a friend who says I am stupid for spending 8000$ a year on a leased Lexus, yet he dumps 4500$ per person on a trip for like 10 days to Aruba. Some will go to casinos or will spend money on weed or other drugs, some will buy boats to float on a river to try and catch a fish when I can go and spend 3$ and buy it at the grocery store (lol) My point is we are all here for a short amount of time and we all work hard for our money and wile we need to pay the necessities of teh family and life, we must never forget to realize that when we are laying on a bed in the hospital with a diagnostic of "you have 2 weeks to live", I don't want to say "Dog poopoo, my g/f future boy toy will be spending my saved up million....like dang!"

So Lexus won't have an entry level sedan? I don't buy that, unless they scrap the badging and just introduce a new entry level sedan under a different name....maybe they go fully EV or Hybrid.

No coz ES doesn't come in RWD which is what most enthusiasts want, hence Lexus (and now Supra) ability to compete with German brands. Similar sentiments apply to Genesis RWD - at least it sells.

RWD also DOES NOT apply to Acura - the best u can do is AWD. Infiniti offers only one RWD model.

If this is how you really feel, why are you even on car forums? Do you just like to pretend you know everything about cars and impose that “knowledge” on the rest of the people who love cars even though you apparently hate them? You make no sense. Honestly, there’s been like 2 or 3 times the whole time I’ve been on these forums where you’ve actually said something I found to be useful. That’s not meant to be an insult just an observation. If cars to you are money pits that people buy and spend too much money on then maybe you should find a new hobby that isn’t trying to bash people spending money on their car because they are actual car enthusiasts.

In that case how about owning 100s of Luxury Brand "3,500 lb. metal contraptions that require a lot of money and care to keep them running"?

Spoiler
