3IS Base LED Fog Light Upgrade
Cannot find anywhere this has been posted yet, so a new thread for you Non F-Sport 14-15 owners who may want to change out the halogen fogs for LED. There's plenty of talk out there about adding Fogs to the F-Sport pkg. Here's some info on the Non F-Sport Models, or Base Models.
I have gone through a few setups with the Fog lights now including Putco yellow halogens, yellow overlays, tinted overlays. Now, replaced the fog housing with LED clear lens lights.
Didn't like the yellow as I though I would. Liked the looks for the 1st and 2nd Gen though.
And I'm certainly not a fan of LED / Halogen combo between the headlights (and DRLs) and the Fog lights. LED + Halogen = No Good (imo).
Simply replacing the Halogen bulb with an LED bulb was also not doable for me either. Wanted a more finished or OEM look and a light which didn't scream "aftermarket"! (which mine kinda do, see below)
When it comes to HIDs or LEDs installed in stock halogen / reflector housings...it's a no-go for me. So I just haven't been using me fog lights for a long time HA.
LIGHT OPTIONS:
I used the Winjet LED fogs $63. Here's an Ebay link for WinJet.
The entire unit is about the same price as I've paid for Halogens in the past, or would have paid for LED bulbs, if not less.
I have only read good things on the brand, and they seem plenty popular.
Based on appearance, they replicate the OEMs more than other options so I liked that.
Christmas gift from the wife.
Another, more popularly recommended alternative is the Morimoto LED Fogs $170. Here's an Ebay link for Morimoto.
From what I read last year, cannot go wrong with these. Highly recommended.
Lexus/Toyota OEM LED Fog Lights. $220 Here's the link for the OEM verision.
INSTALL:
I installed the Winjets without removing the bumper, or even the wheels. Did this outside at work with a flat head, Philips, telescopic mirror, and flashlight. Bingo, that's it. 2 Screws...don't be thrown off by the 4 screws you see on 1 side in there. And on the other side, towards center of car, there are NO screws (could of saved me 10 mins knowing that lol). The brackets on the lens housing appear like you would be using screws, that is because the applications for this light are very broad across Toyota and Lexus, many many models. Even Subaru. They are not only for the 3IS.
Tight space to work in when you're just sneaking in through the wheel-well but It's doable. Suggest if you have the time and/or a lift in front of you...might as well take the wheels off.
If you have any questions on install hit me up maybe I can help. Very easy, plug and play, but bit of a hassle unless you got the front end pulled apart.
RESULTS:
All-in-all improvement over the OEM Halogen.
Color Temp perfect.
During the day lenses look very clean. Much more modern than what was there.
Little too bright for my liking though! They are definitely competing with the headlights which was not my intent.
I did what I could to make sure the lights were even on each side, which they were without my adjusting.
Then I pulled up to a wall to check angle. Appeared ok, so I buttoned everything up and called it done.
I will likely be angling them downward to help them appear to be less bright. Didn't really know this until it got dark last night.
Now I've also checked and they are not pointed so high that they interfere with other driver's on the road. Just high enough you can really see them coming lol.
Pictures to go up in next post.
I replaced my halogens with LEDs, easy-peasy. Although I did buy 2 sets of bulbs with different color temps, as I didn’t know what would match the LED headlights. The first one was too blue, the second was a perfect match. Only cost like $14 IIRC.

The difference however is just how the light is projected from the housing. Having a projector housing made for LEDs is typically going to work and look better than an LED bulb in a light made for halogen bulbs. The reflectors are made for a halogen bulb, not an LED bulb. This is especially true for Low beams. Still holds true for fog lights however the difference wouldn't be as big.
I ended up purchasing the oem led foglights for $72 each from eBay. The oem foglights seem to be better quality and cheaper than aftermarket (like morimoto). It’s definitely worth upgrading, I didn’t bother with using the halogen foglights before, but I use these new ones daily. They’re very bright and actually make a difference
It is plug and play, install is somewhat difficult only because it’s difficult to see anything in that small space. I’d also recommend removing the wheel and using a 10mm socket for removing some of the fender liner to pull back. Thanks for posting OP

Yeah it's a tough space to work in. The telescopic mirror and flashlight was like the 1st 10 mins at least figuring out what had to be done.
