Merged 2021 IS re-design / refresh threads
Pricing has yet to be released on the Type S, but it likely won't start that high, and Acura doesn't offer much in the way of add-able features (one of their main advantages/disadvantages). It would be a very hard sell if this thing was priced similarly to an M340i. The way I'd build it, it would come in around $61k with incentives already being given on them. Oh well, just figured I'd ask ... sounds like it's likely never happening. It'll probably be a miracle if Lexus even brings the IS back for a 4th gen with how poor sales are, let alone dump more money into a hi-po variant. Shame, I think they're great looking cars and fell in love with the IS-F. This refresh looks very good, especially in white ... just nothing by the way of performance under the hood.

Bolts are inferior to a stud/nut set-up. Just because the Europeans do it, doesn't make it superior. More consistent torque across the face of the wheel. There's a reason high boost, high horsepower applications switch over from cylinder head bolts to a stud/nut set-up to prevent lift. Plus, it makes mounting the wheels a pain in the *** compared to a stud/lug set-up.
It also comes with "helper" wheel pilot pins.. I wouldn't necessarily say that's inferior..

I would suspect some of this similar technology is now finally making it into the 2021 IS..
Back to the Nuts & Bolts
per Lexus USA
Repairers will notice a change on the other side of the wheels as well. The 2021 IS uses “lighter weight hub bolts” compared to the 2020 IS wheel nuts, reducing unsprung weight by about 2 pounds.
“The use of hub bolts allows for improved fastening strength and therefore an increase to rigidity to further enhance braking and handling,” Lexus wrote. “… The new bolts also feature a black coating so as not to draw any attention away from the attractive new wheel designs.”

My 2020 IS350 F-Sport MSRP was $46.6k back in May. That was with no options. Those with options were at or still under $50k. I am sure the next version is going to climb. Incentives in two years will bring it right back down. IS's lease very well after the initial hype dies off. The current base IS300 is now at $299/mo. and the IS350 F-Sport is now at $320/mo. One more month and it all jumps up.

I don't know if there's a particular advantage of bolts other than fewer parts to keep track of (as opposed to studs + nuts).

Those cars are not available for test drive - they are not dealer stock cars or inventory..
They are pre production demos from Lexus Corp.

I have to agree. In a segment where its been completely disrupted by the horsepower wars, new entrants, and a migration to CUVs, all Lexus did was a facelift and handling improvements. Its not going to help sales much.
